Re: 1190: "Time"

I've made my own (simpler) newpix-to-OTT index, here: http://mrob.com/time No post for np63? The Elders let us down! Yep, it goes from secchimribeiro at 5:58 March 26th (my local outsider time) to NotThatHatGuy at 6:31 . So yeah, that was the first postless newpix. Temporal Edit Attention All Bli...

I see it be-done added, (it's at http://xkcd-time.wikia.com/wiki/Useful_External_Links#OTT_post_indices ) but since it's only fair, I have added the link to Kieryn's page htt...

Re: 1190: "Time"

An apology 1 in advance : When I found this thread I saw that it'd be impossible to blitz my way all the way to the present and I didn't feel it was right to blind-post or time-warp to contribute ideas about the actual OTC story. So I had to wait until GLR turned off the firehose... Now I find Kiery...

You can really do it two ways: "pro-mode" - you have to figure it out based on only the knowledge in your head, apparently of international botany, geology, landmarks and language. I can't get much over 9000 that way. Then there's "My really odd kidnappers left me with a smart phone ...

Re: 1185: "Ineffective Sorts"

Some years back, perhaps in the 1980s, there was a competition for the "worst" sort algorithm. They were careful to state that 1) the sort had to actually work, 2) speed was measured only by operation count, and 3) "irrelevant" time wasting or sabotage instructions weren't allow...

Re: ITT: We make xkcd slightly worse.

Hmmm... my xkcd fanatic friends agree, so I must have a memory lapse. But I know I saw this somewhere: A person claims that infinity doesn't exist, and any proof based on the concept of infinity is invalid; then the "straight man" tries to prove the existence of infinity starting with &quo...

Re: 1047: "Approximations"

reminds me of my dad's easy way to do simple multiplications: 7*7? Just take 5*10 and subtract 1. Curiously, the fact that 2 * 7^2 = 10^2 - 2 is connected to the digit pattern of sqrt(2): \sqrt{2} = 1.4~14~21~35 Have you ever noticed that the pairs of digits are 2, 2, 3, and 5 times 7? and that the...
