Re: Ray Tracer Project

While it's not really an article someone I used to know made a ray tracer in his spare time. He posted on the MSDN forums about it a while back. It's not the same ray tracer but he also made one which, with more recent modifications from other people, can be found in this git repository if you're in...

Re: [ArchBang] CPU is limited unless the mouse is moving.

I'm assuming that you're using OpenGL for all these programs, does this happen if you just run `glxgears -info` in a terminal?

I haven't seen this issue with wine before, it doesn't always work brilliantly but generally the frame rate is fine, it's other issues which are the problem.

Re: Need help with creating a script

If you are running Linux, you can create a simple Perl script to do it and run that as a cron job. I bet someone out there can do it in 3 lines of code. Well, it's not in perl, but I was bored: zed0@codd:~$ while true; do wget -qO- xkcd.com | sed -ne 's/.*<title>xkcd: \(.*\)<\/title>.*/\1/p'; sleep...

Re: Locating a hotspot in an image

Do you know roughly how large a hotspot you are looking for? I would have thought that you could make a small Gaussian peak template (probably around double the size of the expected hotspot) and then try to cross-correlate it with a scaled up version of the image. If you cross-correlated on a grid d...

If you want to check if someone has won you can map the board onto a magic square and check whether any three of the player's pieces sum to 15. This can generally avoid a leaning tower of if statements.

I'm fairly sure that D2 kills. If white responds at either D3 or F3 you make the bulky 5 by playing at E2, leaving white without eye space. If white responds at E3 then you play at F4, threatening to connect to the lone stone. If he blocks this at F3 then you play the bulky 5 again, otherwise p...

If you don't have any and you want to be more like MacGyver then I guess you could use Duck Tape and/or rubber bands, but be warned, neither of them interact favourably with hair.

Since you've not stopped programming the only problems you should have will be with the C++ specifics which you can look up in a reference when you get to them. (Basic program flow will be the same as php in most cases)

You can certainly remote desktop to other machines through a variety of methods (vnc, rdp, etc.), however I'm not sure that any of them support sending the results of the hardware acceleration your games will receive on your desktop back over the connection.
