Re: Housework exercises

It's not weight training in general, it's at the moment, I prefer dumbbells to barbells. A large part of it is because it's easier for me to get a good grip on dumbbells, and the other part is I can keep a few sets of dumbbells at my house, rather than go to the gym. I usually go to the gym when I w...

A bit, but I'm trying to build up my hand strength before going for anything that weighs more than 25 lbs (excluding machines - I'm at 70 for lat pull-downs). I've got very small hands. I mostly do weight machines, with free weights for chest presses, shoulder presses, bicep curls, etc. I use resistance bands sometimes, and have been meaning to work them into push-ups. I do weight training, and I do get bulky, because I have high testosterone. However, I can not do any exercise that involves jumping or bouncing, which is why I tend to do things like arabesques, leg-lifts, and squats. I don't do household exercises to the exclusion of regular exercise. To me, it doesn't seem different if one is doing leg-lifts and arabesques at a bar or in front of the sink, though.

Just some general notes from my experience: 1) Cut out as many starchy white foods as you can. Replace white bread with whole grain, white potatoes with sweet potatoes, white rice with brown rice, etc. White starches tend to be higher on the Glycemic Index than the less processed ones, and high GI f...

Re: Things to eat when you suddenly need calories

I've actually read that the fats in butter help slow the insulin spiking action of high GI foods. Not really sure if it's true or not, but it's interesting, especially since I try to follow a fairly low GI diet. Another thing that the OP might try if she has access to a microwave: poke some holes in...

According to my BMI, I'm morbidly obese. However, underneath my fat, I'm very densely muscled... according to my body fat index, I'm at the threshhold for obesity vs. overweight. I want to lose about 40 lbs. of fat... I've decided to scrap my target weight, since I put on muscle so easily.

Garth Nix and Timothy Zahn. Both have strong women who fail a lot of the time, deal with their failures, and move on. I get sick of the super-over-powered woman who does right all the time - they aren't relatable.
