well...I merely parroted my physics teacher, but now considering the diversity of the two potential problems I feel compelled to read up on exactly what happened...Sounds like a real screwy situation...

They shut it down because a transformer overheated and melted the coils... /edit Which means a sector heated, or i,s heating up. The cold temperatures are required for the magnets there to work properly. By the time they get a new transformer, they'll have to re-cool the station for another 2 months...
