Re: Police misbehavior thread

I'm pretty sure there have been massive arguments in this very thread about that.

In my anecdotal experience, an in-law whose brother committed some pretty dumb abuses of power, and completely embarrassed himself basically thought he was an idiot. But ymmv.

Re: scalia dead

So the alternative you're suggesting is we live in the 18th century? The idea is to take the underlying philosophy of the text and apply it to today's world. Because even the founders were not always philosophically/logically consistent in how they applied constitutional rights (c.f. slavery). Re-re...

So you see no issue in courts only accountable to their party loyalty rendering decisions that sweepingly change the essential meaning and wording of historical law? Why do you say both sides are abusing scotus? The way the court works is the justices decide which cases out of the pile to take on. If the court feels like they want affect gay marriage, finance, etc etc puppies they can find a case for it. They can telegraph future potential cases in their opinio...

Sounds like what you need is a giant network of computers [1] all trying to remotely log into each other in order to keep each other from logging out. What could possibly go wrong? As it stands, I was correct. The timestamp program was trivial, and the service was too much. Currently working on a n...

Can't you let it log in automatically? (i.e. "<OS> automatically log in" gives search results for every operating system) No, because the IT policy includes having a non-administrator, password protected account. (In order to avoid flouting that completely by leaving the PC logged in, it'...

For context, the longest Supreme Court confirmation in history was Brandeis, at 125 days. Off the top of my head, my version was advertised as 58mpg combined, 65 highway. I'm not terribly far off those numbers, and can get significantly closer if I make sure I accelerate gently etc.

So I'd still expect to be well into the 60s if I bought that car.

I'm confused. The Hyundai Elantra (the American name to the i30) only gets 28 city MPG / 38 highway. What's this talk about 78MPG? He not only claimed "easily double", but "midsize car", so I'm entirely comfortable with calling BS on that. Gains exist, but he's way overselling them. There are two problems here: 1. "Mid size car" doesn't have a particular meaning in Europe. 2. We might not be talki...

In that case, I'm not quite sure how I feel about the matter. I assume it's vanishingly unlikely that you could set the fuel off accidentally, but it still seems incredibly ill advised to ship it by commercial airlines, regardless of whether it goes to the wrong place.

So, the two year old decided yesterday that his bedtime was not 7, but midnight. He spent much of the time between either in despair or just straight up angry with the world.
