Re: When will $1 be the smallest denomination?

In the U.S., concession stands (at theaters, sporting vents, etc.) usually include include tax in their prices and they almost always have the prices in round numbers. On the other hand groceries aren't subject to sales tax and they are as bad at the $X.99 cents thing as anyone. My guess is that it ...

Re: Three kids kill a white guy

I can't imagine a teenager with impulse control issues, extreme anti-social behavior, complete inability to weigh future costs against short term gain and a mindset of, 'I'm bored, might as well murder someone', is going to have much success finding or keeping a job no matter what the economy looks ...

Re: When will $1 be the smallest denomination?

You could also get rid of the quarter instead, or replace it with a 20 cent coin, so that you have 10, 20 and 50 cent coins. You could then drop the 2nd decimal on currency figures entirely. True, but it seems like that would be quite a bit more work since you would have to introduce a new coin in ...

Re: When will $1 be the smallest denomination?

Pennies are currently not worth carrying, but they're still around (possibly because of the political power of Illinois?). Just sayin', inflation is not the only thing that determines whether a unit of currency is discontinued. Don't forget the political power of copper and zinc producing states. I...

Re: Police misbehavior thread

Brilliant way of spending our limited Law Enforcement resources. Are they sure they were really cops? They should get verification that they weren't just robbed by people impersonating police but with fake nametags that were so obviously fake they had to cover them up. I can't imagine robbers spend...

Re: US Fast Food Strikes

In-N-Out might be price competitive, but they aren't selection competitive. They are a burger place that sells burgers, fries, drinks and shakes. That's how they keep prices low, they only really make three things in a handful of variations, so they can make those things fast. Compare to McDonalds w...

Re: US Fast Food Strikes

One reason the In-N-Out has more profit per store than McDonald's is because there are a lot fewer In-N-Out stores than McDonald's stores and not just because In-N-Out is regional. This doesn't make sense. If McDonalds' business model isn't scalable, then they should stop scaling it. Who said anyth...
