Guesses for the last utterance 2 np ago: No response from the other Beanie, who goes right back to stick drawing. So, not an urgent command and not a question (which is also confirmed by the punctuation as we understand it so far). That makes it seem like passing on news (something like "Jack i...

Re: 1190: "Time"

Salt lakes and salty inland seas are that way because they have no outflows. So what's to dam up? Dam up the inflows and it gets lower, not higher. You'd have to divert water that had been flowing to some other sea. And while I'm being contrary, I don't think the instrument on the tower is an astron...

Re: 1190: "Time"

Sure, confusion could happen, in some contexts. If Cueball draws a picture showing the land and sea, and then tries to clarify which is the sea by pointing to it and saying what he thinks is "water" but actually means "cup," it could be confusing (and/or hilarious) for a while. ...

I predict that if Cueball starts chirping with their instruments, he'll quickly learn a whole lot of interesting new words! Most of them variations on the Beanong word for "chirp."

(But is that what he's looking at? Maybe someone else is coming down the hill.)

Re: 1190: "Time"

The good thing about the "water/drink/cup" problem is that it doesn't really matter at this initial level of language learning. We tend to think of words as individual distinct things, like hard little beads we string onto sequences, but they only work because they interrelate. Grammatical...
