Re: Birth defects show rise in Falluja

Lots of birth defects in this Falluja, and oh look, we put stuff in their water a few years before. Hm. Fighting a war is a bit different from standing over a reservoir with a vial of poison, cackling as you twirl your black mustache. That was more or less an article summary. I don't think that any...

Birth defects show rise in Falluja

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/8548707.stm A BBC investigation in Iraq has confirmed a disturbingly high number of birth defects among children in the town of Falluja. Six years ago, in 2004, there were fierce battles as US forces subdued two uprisings in the town. Now, one hospital doctor t...

I never heard about this. Honestly, I'm more surprised that this happens so few times per year than that it happened with this case. The news is pretty quick to find stuff like this.

Re: Bibles for Porn on college campus

I think it's really only the Judeo-Christian religions that are problematic, and Judaism not so much. The others are very focused on having their rules apply to all people, not just followers. We just have issues deciding which statements warrant using in our doctrine, a bit... In 1st Corinthians, ...

Re: Bibles for Porn on college campus

So in that sense, I don't care about pissing off religious people or being confrontational as long as it spreads the message. They're not the target audience, anyway. What would be being spread, here? Is this a general support thing for other atheists? It's clearly not going to convert anyone, thou...

But I stand by, and in fact intensify, my point. If your only goal in doing something is to piss someone off, you're a scumsucking waste-of-skin douchebag, and humanity would be better off without your childish antics (and failing that, simply without you). Heck, just build a lunar space elevator! There's less gravity and little atmosphere, so material strength is not an issue; we can feasibly build one. Also, a lot less space junk worries out there. It wouldn't be ideal for transporting astronauts (lunarnauts?) since it'd be slow, but would be cost e...

Re: Bibles for Porn on college campus

The comparison here isn't... well thought out, maybe. The Bible has a lot of stuff in it which is not child friendly, but it isn't in the same genre as porn. Porn is for entertainment, the Bible is for learning. This is roughly equivalent to anatomy books being traded for porn, except the educationa...

Is the severity of an offense measured by how many different ways you do it? Yes? No? 13 murders of the same degree and heinousness would not be a more serious if one was a gunshot kill and one was a poisoning. The degree of heinousness is what would be the main variable; more methods of torture, m...

Mechanical pencils always seemed better than wooden ones to me. I usually don't have a pencil sharpener in a convenient place to use it, so mechanical pencils make more clean lines for me. By now I hardly ever break the lead. Using .7mm lead, even less often.
