Re: History

I love history, but I don't like being poor. Hence my lack of interest in a history major  dawt. I don't want to get a PhD and be a professor, nor do I want to teach high school. I considered getting it as a second degree along with Mechanical Engineering when I decided on getting a second...

Re: Careers in Physics?

If you are interested in physics there are basically two routes you can take: a) be a physicist, do a lot of research and theoretical, expect to need a graduate degree of some sort when all is said and done. b) be an engineer, need only a 4 year degree, do more hands-on, real world work, but do less...

Re: The drag coefficient

I am not positive of the math, but the reason they slow down when together is that they form one mass basically. It increases the surface area, which increases the resistance, which slows them down. Also, in reply to the last post, the reason they can move around and adjust their trajectory when fre...

Re: Extended Essay for Computer Science - Please Help Me..

I have no idea how an extended essay differs from a normal essay, but what about writing about the changes in programming code over the years.

Re: Why Learn Chemistry?

As Doc Brown said, "Actually I'm a student of all sciences." Basically this. Chemistry is a core science. Most science programs will touch on chemistry to some extent and it bridges the gap between the more pure, and mathematically driven sciences (various forms of physics basically) and ...

Re: Post-Secondary Education...

Maybe it's just the economy, but I know several engineers who have been laid off or just can't find work. I don't want to discourage you though, maybe things will pick up by the time you're finished. Yeah, mechanical engineers have had a little trouble with this recession. It's part of the reason I...

Re: Post-Secondary Education...

As some invoked earlier, a common path for engineer is the engineering degree and a MBA equivalent), where you end up being a project manager or something along those line, which is the money-making route in engineering, and that allow you to combine those two fields. The opposite though would be, ...

Re: Post-Secondary Education...

You need to know that generally less involved probably means less legitimate in the real world when employers are looking at the degree. Also, you really can't take engineering courses on the side. You are either in the program or not. Minors are also useless. If you want to do business and engineer...

Re: Post-Secondary Education...

I am in my 3rd year of engineering at Western and you actually have a ton of opportunities to do both Business and Engineering. Here at Western, if you have decent marks (to get in to the business school), you can do Engineering + HBA from our business school (Ivey School of Business) in 5 years. As...

Thanks for the link. I have been doing some of the stuff you said (minus talking to a prof, haven't done that yet). I wanted to check on here too because the population is pretty intellectually gifted and might have some knowledge in the area.

Re: Fluffing up a paper

It depends on the paper and how it is laid out, but I am a big fan of basically rehashing a couple of paragraphs but use completely different structure and wording so it looks like new ideas. It really depends on the teacher though. Some see right through this as it is pretty obvious, while others d...

Re: What To Do With My Life

I get what your saying. I know about the politics of grad work as I have a few friends doing it now, but I could handle that if that is what I decide to do. I am also not 100% sure I will do the PhD. If I find a job I actually enjoy, I would stay with that. I am completely down with the "chip i...

Re: What To Do With My Life

Yeah, it is the eternal money vs. passion problem. I have actually thought about doing the second degree in economics. I really am not sure what I want to do with my life so my thoughts were a science and a business type degree. Leaves me open to PhD in Earth Sci, getting a business job, teaching Hi...

What To Do With My Life

I finished my 2nd year of Mechanical Engineering at University of Western Ontario this spring. I have decided to do a second degree in Earth Sciences as it interests me and I need a break from Engineering. I need the break because as of right now, I have minimal interest in finishing my degree. I ha...
