Re: RELATIVITY QUESTIONS! (and other common queries)

So Time Dilation and Length Contraction occur simultaneously? Everything proper: V x T = D 0.99c X 7.4mths = 7.4lmths In relation to a static observer: V x Tγ = Dγ 0.99c X 4.3years = 4.3lyears I saw an animation the spaceship itself got 'squished up' too. Oh, and the point of 'speed of light' would ...

Re: RELATIVITY QUESTIONS! (and other common queries)

Before I try solving deeper for that proper speed, I should really need to get clear on Time Dilation and Length Contraction. My question is really simple(or stupid  ): What does Time Dilation and Length Contraction affect? I'll try and answer it myself, and hopefully I do not get it wrong. A ...

Re: RELATIVITY QUESTIONS! (and other common queries)

Hi guys =P So anyway, I just thought of a problem(which might be old). If you calculate average speed using Observer Distance covered over Relativistic Time, you can get an FTL speed(like Alpha Centauri example). So, there would be a speed V where it is equal to c(Using obs. dist / Relativistic time...

Re: RELATIVITY QUESTIONS! (and other common queries)

Which brings me to my point on people crying "Oh me yarm!" on FTL in sci-fi. I agree your speed is not greater than c, but I don't agree how it is 'impossible' for you to have reached X place in X time for a relatively lazy observer Y. Obviously, assuming we have an interstellar engine. Ma...

Re: RELATIVITY QUESTIONS! (and other common queries)

The reason that FTL is such a big thing in sci-fi is because it's normally impossible. Relativity states that, as you go faster, your inertia (I think) increases, meaning you have to put more energy into your object to make it go faster still. This effect gets larger the closer you get to the speed...

Re: RELATIVITY QUESTIONS! (and other common queries)

Sorry if I sound weird here, just really beginning to grasp relativity. Why is there such a big fuss about science fiction and faster than light speeds? A static clock would observe FTL speeds of a moving clock(assuming fast enough). Is this momentum too difficult to generate? Or am I really wrong i...
