I think there might be a problem there in that the force would be pressing on the surface rather than the surface pressing on the core. If your surface converts to neutronium, you'd be in trouble. Laser spectrometer vision is a fairly common superpower. The famous cases have much higher beam intensities, but not everybody can be the strongest.
