Re: Wikipedia: the MOST reliable source?

The problem I have with this is that teachers tend to say "Don't use wikipedia, use more reliable websites" and then don't actually go into how to determine a website's reliability. To be honest, most of the teachers I've had (actually, only the english and social sciences teachers. I've n...

Re: Stupid School Policies

Our school decided that they we shouldn't eat lunch on the bottom floor (the school is 2 floors and the cafeteria is upstairs), so they decided to lock all of those gates that block off hallways. They did this for all of about 4 days. On day 5, the fire marshal showed up (due to a huge, and rightful...

Re: Yearbook vandalism

Wait a minute... It's April 29th. School ends relatively soon (within the next month and a half depending on the school). Seems to me like the yearbooks are probably already being printed, changing anything might not result in any change. And yeah, don't screw with any real person's/group's photo or...

Re: AP courses

intelligence > college credits I agree, but you have to be careful with AP classes. Sometimes you might learn something, but a lot of times AP classes are no better than mindless memorization. My AP chemistry teacher is the best teacher I have ever had in any class and I learn a ton of stuff. On th...

Re: Is it time to trash paper books in schools?

You can quickly flip between disparate sections of a book. Sorry, but searching, multiple windows, bookmarks, and other electronic features win out. Not even close. The computer has a bunch of different things that could fail which would render your textbook worthless. I've never had the BSOD while...

and as somebody has already said, they dont make meccanums that size. It's possible to make mecanums that size. "They" don't really make mecanums in any size. Andymark makes 6 and 8 inch versions but the rollers on them aren't exactly the best. Airtrax makes huge (as in, car tire size) on...

Re: MIT

I was thinking about this some more. I remember reading an article on how colleges like the "echo boom" (The children of baby boomers) because they can be more selective. MIT is already selective in the first place. I wonder if everyone admitted has a 4.0 unweighted GPA with 2400 SAT score...

Re: MIT

They didn't accept me, and my opinion of them has been steadily declining since. It's not that I'm pretentious, it's just easier for me to say "oh well, I didn't get into that other engineering school" than "I got denied from perhaps the best engineering college in the United States&q...

Re: Internet Filters

School filters are so abominable, I'm very glad I'm out of high school. Particularly banning Wikipedia - unreliable or no, browsing Wikipedia is probably the most educational way you could possibly waste time on the internet. Informative != Educational Because learning information isn't educating y...

Re: Students who will not learn

Case 6: In science, you're supposed to gather objective and empirical data, then form a conclusion based on your data. You don't form your conclusion first then try to rig your data to support your conclusion (though the fact that you did that does mean you're on your way to holding a high-ranking ...

Re: Improving the educational system

someone living in a poor neighborhood can send their child to an expensive school by skimping on other parts of his budget (like, for example, rent). I thought that was a joke for a second. Skimping on rent isn't like skimping on junk food. If you don't pay your rent, you have no place to live. Pri...

Re: Distributing Condoms in School

You'd have to prove that the condom failed because of the school. Condoms might fail because of a flaw at the factory; they might fail because of the actions of those using it. But unless someone poked holes in them with a pin, it's hard to imagine how they could get screwed up at the school. It's ...

I work at a super market (grocery store) at the moment to save money for University. Trust me, nothing phases me about what people buy. You get enough random things when they're not trying to confuse you. And after you've explained to someone what "Buy one get one free" means, I think you...
