Re: Apples vs Oranges

They are both similar: they both have inedible seeds, they both have skins, grow on trees, can be used to make juice, they can be either sweet or sour, both contain vitamin C, and there are many different varieties of either fruit. None is really better than the other, so I go for whatever seems fre...

Re: Opera, Chrome, Firefox, OR?

I use seamonkey, but I really liked it better before 2.0. I mean, I still prefer the interface over firefox, but since ever since 2.0 it consumes about as much memory as firefox.

Re: Starting out learning programming

I like C: I've been using it since 1980, but I wouldn't recommend it as a first language because it is too low level. Serious use of C involves pointers, and IMHO forcing complete newbies to learn about pointers is not wise. My first language was javascript with webpages, and I went directly to C. ...

Re: Visual Basic 2008 Help

Best place for references to the .NET framework will be msdn:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms229335(v=VS.90).aspx

As for the form, I can't really help you there, but when I read your post it sounds like you want a floating textbox with no window behind it; is that really what you want?

Re: vb.net vs the world

Is it still possible in Visual Studio to use real C++? There are four options for C++ projects in Visual Studio: CLR - .NET ATL - Basically for developing COM objects MFC - A class library that is easier to work with and provides extra functionality over the standard Win32 libraries Win32 - Regular...

Re: vb.net vs the world

I think C# is the only one in this list that makes use of the .NET framework. Note that I'm not saying that Microsoft aims C# as the default language for everything , only for .NET. You can develop for Windows without .NET, too. "Visual Basic" is not VB.NET. As stated, Visual Basic in new...

Re: vb.net vs the world

I seem to recall that VB is the default language to be embedded in ASP constructions, which I assume you were working with in Visual Webdev? I think that apart from ASP (if that's .NET at all, but I guess it probably is), C# is the intended default language for .NET. It was Visual Webdev, but I jus...

Re: vb.net vs the world

We're talking a language where this was the only method of error detection available. Basically, try/catch except you caught everything , with no non-hackish way to catch some errors and delegate others. Implemented with gotos. And with the horror that is "On Error Resume Next" even exist...

Re: vb.net vs the world

One factor that could make a difference between the popularity of VB.NET and C# is that C# is aimed by Microsoft to be the default language for .NET, and therefore they put more effort in promoting it. Hmm... When I was playing with Visual Web Developer, the default was VB. I have a copy of visual ...

Re: “Trade Expert” discussion

I've gotta admit, the distinction between slashes and backslashes has always seemed completely backwards to me. Naturally, when writing a slash, you start at the top and go down. So... a regular slash starts at the top and goes backwards from there, while a backslash starts at the top and goes forw...

Re: "Dimensional Analysis" discussion

This brings up an interesting question: What was there before the prius was created? I tried doing the calculation in SQL Server, but it just returns NULL. Did the world not exist before the prius? Is our history real, or just an illusion? Was the prius created by man, Azathoth, itself, or did it ju...
