I tend to say 'I have a question', but I don't think I made a conscious decision to say this to avoid any 'Can I ask you a question?' 'you already have' shenanigans, but I'm sure I used to say 'Can I ask you a question?'

It's 5:30am and I just finished work. I could have finished this work way sooner, but instead I watched Disney's Robin Hood last night and slept in until lunchtime today, then I kind of slacked off and watched some TV this evening as well.

I used to pretty much have a cup of tea in one hand and serve customers with the other. People don't expect the same level of professionalism from a stall on the side of the road selling fruit though.
