Re: Advice on buying a digital camera.

I have an Olympus Stylus 790 SW. It's easy to use, but I wish it had more than 3x optical zoom, and maybe better megapixels (it has 7.1). It's also shock + waterproof, so it can be used underwater or dropped 5 feet. Doesn't ahppen much, but it's handy. Two hundred something dollars I think. My frien...

I think I can disprove this with the counterexample of 4.

Re: Modern art

Of course we get to decide what's good and bad. If people put art up for public display or auction it, it deserves to be critiqued or criticized. That's why museums don't randomly select which pieces they'll show. Being different just for the sake of it is fine with me, but is it really good art? In...

Even if we agreed that it is a song, we could still argue that it sucks, couldn't we? At least as compared to Beethoven. The idea is clever, but it's not so great to listen to.

Re: Modern art

Yeah, being weird or unusual doesn't make it art. I've seen some dissapointing stuff in modern art museums. A toilet (not as part of a restroom, but a prominently displayed piece of art). "Paintings" which were only one color. I just got the feeling there was no point.

Although I approve of the new title, I like the original Simpson's quote better. They say "It's uter-us, not uter-you". It just sounds better, especially when you hear Homer's voice saying it.

Quantum mechanics vs. relativity

So as I understand it, QM works well at small (subatomic) scales and relativity works well at large scales. So I would think there would be some in-between level where it would switch off from one to the other. Is there? Is there a size where they both work about the same?

No, it is not as good as 300.

Mass of the proton?

I was reading a science magazine (Cosmos) and it said the proton has a mass of 0.938 Gev/c^2. Also, a proton is comprised of 2 up quarks and one down quark, with respective masses of 0.004 and 0.008 GeV/c^2. These numbers don't add up, so where did the extra mass come from?
