Re: Blistering blue barnacles

I'm watching ... hbomberguy talk about speedrunning and I'm weirdly pissed off about Ready Player One. It's bad. It's so dated and out of touch with video games and internet communities and how anything works. It was written in 2011. Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny is 6 years older. Half Life...

Re: Blistering blue barnacles

Where you are, does the red arrow typically stay on for the duration of the green light? Depends on the intersection. We have several around town where the turning lanes of one road have the green and no one else, then they’ll both cycle to flashing yellow while straight has green, then both go red...

I'm in real far to an anger spiral mostly about BLinking Yellow Left Turn Arrows they're poppin' up in intersections, and anecdotally, i think they're awful and distracting and not helpful. Re: Libertarianism

One of the arguments I always see floated against raising the minimum wage is “Inflation will just kick in and the buying power for minimum-wage will stay the same.”

How does a universal basic income avoid this?

Re: Libertarianism

Incidentally, this is one reason why libertarians are generally pretty negative about minimum wage laws. Yes, in practice, we want people to be paid well, but that's handled best by a competitive labor market that naturally drives up wages. An abusively minded organization can find other ways to ex...

The Long Answer Your Secondly point. You.. are aware people enter in to agreements all the time where both parties benefit from the arrangement, right? Re: 2033: "Repair or Replace"

Even for the small companies, a wipe and reload is basically trivial as far as time is concerned. Backup Data, wipe, reload the OS, patch the OS, install Office, install 1-3 other pieces of software, restore data, walk away. About 45 minutes of actual time at a keyboard, the process itself takes.......

Re: 2033: "Repair or Replace"

The economics might make sense for the producer, but I'd like to see some math on how it makes sense for the consumer. I could see it if I regularly had to fix/repair something on my phone every 6 months or so such that the total cost over (the next) 2 years is similar to just buying a new one, but...

Perhaps? I'm just not sure who the hell could afford someone's labor up front in such a way that wasn't exploitative. Paying someone a half million dollars for seven years of labor, working out to roughly $71,000 a year.... who the hell's going to pony up $71,000 a year? Part of the whole indentured...

That doesn't appear to have much to do with the aesthetics of a impressionist painting from the turn of the 20th century France and more to do with being a modern-day painter.

As for tossing out the law, it depends on the law. Some law desperately needs to be thrown out. Some's essential to keep. Libertarians would certainly like a great deal less law in total, but it's not a commodity. The effects of law vary wildly. However, layering on patch after patch, often from co...

An easy example of at least localized monopolization is ISPs. Something like 129mil Americans have only one practical option for ISPs*.
