"Who's online" looks weird

Postby rat4000 » Wed Apr 15, 2009 12:52 pm UTC

Spoiler:

Well, this is how it looked for me a moment ago. Notice that everything or almost everything is mirrored.

I assume this is a problem.

It survived several refreshes and a cache cleaning. I'm on Mozilla Firefox version 3.0.8, using Windows.

Somebody is playing with the codes that make text reverse for languages that read right to left. Since that person has these codes in their username, when they are logged on it messes with the list of who is online. As this affects things outside of FaiD, somebody might want to log on with that particular sockpuppet less often.

Ah. Thanks. So that's why FaiD also looks like this from time to time.

Or they might want to check the "hidden" box when logging on?

You still show up in that list if you're hidden. Or at least, I can see you and so can the other mods. I assume that it would be affected in the same way whether or not the person is actually displayed down there.

Really? I thought that hidden meant that no one could see you online? (at least, no normal people.)

If Cheese doesn't show up, the unicode characters are not present in the text, and the text will not be mirrored.

Except that for moderators *everyone* shows up there, even if they are 'hidden'. So while it would be smart for that account to be logged in hidden, thus preventing issues for normal users, the people who actually have the ability to smack around a FaiD joke that jumped the fence will *always* see it.

So what? Why would anyone, and by extension moderators, care about the freaking list?

He does have a point, it's really harming nobody and is just a bit of fun, but then, where do you draw the line?
Your call, I guess.

The spanner that it's just an analogy just because you don't use a tool doesn't mean nobody does and that everyone who doesn't like a bad thing happening to it is a bad person.

Also it somehow doesn't make a difference. If it annoys people, that's bad. I don't know what purpose that list serves anyway, but when it's mirrored, there's even less purpose in it.

Ninjad. Yep. I have also just come to that conclusion as seen above.
