How good is lattice based cryptography looking?

I've seen a lot of buzz lately about lattice based cryptographic systems based on the shortest vector problem. Does anyone here have a feel for how much potential these cryptosystems really have?

I have no answer for this, but I'd like to quasi-hijack this thread to ask the corresponding question about cryptography based on supersingular isogeny.
