Adam's Collaborative Song: "Oppan Adam Style"

Postby Adam H » Mon Aug 19, 2013 9:41 pm UTC

This will be like one of the many add-a-sentence-to-the-story/poem games we have here, with a few EXCITING differences:

1) You can add lyrics OR music. The musical contributions don't have to be detailed; examples include "guitar solo", "sing this line like you're constipated", "play [this line] from [this song] on the kazoo" etc. Or they can be as specific as sheet music.

2) You can play the role of the editor as well as the writer, by ordering and clarifying previous posts however you want.

3) When we're done, I'll record my interpretation of the thread and put it up for you to laugh at.

I can play lots of instruments with my keyboard and fake any instrument I don't have with a similar sounding instrument, so don't let that hinder your creativity. Stringed instruments like banjo and ukulele would be tough and I'd probably just use my guitar or mandolin instead, but other than that I think I have most stuff covered.

As an example, and to kick it off:

The intro consists of a snare roll as the singer says "This song goes out to... [???]" (someone else can decide who/what the song goes out to...)

So basically, we copy the previous part and then add or change it however we like?

The intro consists of a snare roll as the singer says "This song goes out to all the chumps in the audience. That's you, chumps!"
Then a one-handed guitarist starts an open-string melody. (notes can be determined by someone else.)

Then a one-handed guitarist starts an open-string melody. (The melody sounds like a repetitive intro to a Western, complete with sound effects of revolvers being fired.)

Suddenly, the music starts going very slow and low pitched, until it stops entirely, only to start playing backwards faster and faster, until it starts again but at much higher speed, and then seems to be stuck like a broken record on the part "That's you, chumps! *Scratch* That's you, chumps! *Scratch* That's you, chumps! *Scratch* ..."

When the high pitched screech becomes unbearable, all the sound cuts, and three voices (each one being Adam singing with different pitch and timing) start singing "Chumps, chumps, row your chumps, gently down the stream. Merrily, Hairily, Warily, Barely, Chumps are in my dreams." accompanied by a single piano to the tune of Row, Row, Row Your Boat.

After running through one full rendition of "Row you Chumps" with only a piano, an orchestra kicks up in the background playing an instrumental rendition.
(I have no qualms of this being taken out if Adam can't manage an orchestra)

In the background, a pianist starts playing "Never Gonna Give You Up" on an out-of-tune piano.
He stops singing Adam's Style, to start singing Never Gonna Give You Up, while the instrumentals of Gangnam Style and bad tune piano continue. But the next time he has to sing Never Gonna Give You Up, he switches to Barry White's Never, Never Gonna Give You Up, followed by Poussez's Never Gonna Say Goodbye

Spoiler:
So the lyrics would be sort of:

(Rick Astley)
We're no strangers to love
You know the rules and so do I
A full commitment's what I'm thinking of
You wouldn't get this from any other guy

I just wanna tell you how I'm feeling
Gotta make you understand

(Barry White)
Never, never gonna give you up
I'm never, ever gonna stop
Not the way I feel about you
Girl, I just can't live without you

I'm never ever gonna quit,
'Cause quitin' just ain't my schtick
I'm gonna stay right here with you
Do all the things you want me to

Aahh
Ooh, baby
Ooh, baby
Keep on
(My baby)
Keep on doing it
Right on (oh, oh, oh)
Right on doing it
(We get it together)

(Rick Astley)
Never gonna give you up
Never gonna let you down
Never gonna run around and desert you
Never gonna make you cry

(Poussez)
I never gonna say goodbye,
never gonna make you cry,
never gonna say goodbye...to you.
And I never gonna break your heart,
never gonna let us part,
never gonna say goodbye...to you.

I never gonna put you down,
never gonna make you frown,
never gonna say goodbye...to you.

Re: Adam's Collaborative Song: "Oppan Adam Style"

The intro consists of a snare roll as the singer says "This song goes out to all the chumps in the audience. That's you, chumps!"
Then a one-handed guitarist starts an open-string melody. (The melody sounds like a repetitive intro to a Western, complete with sound effects of revolvers being fired.)
The lead singer guitarist then stops, looks into the audience and announces "this part is just to be an asshole to the people playing Guitar Hero" and proceeds to wildly flail on the strings for 30 seconds as bats fly out from behind him.
Suddenly, a heavy bass enters from the background, as does a rhythmic repetition of the phrase "to be an asshole to the people playing Guitar Hero" which repeats over and over.
The tempo speeds up for about 30 seconds, after which time a violinist begins playing the Flight of the Bumblebee at double speed with the base and singing as background.
The background singing, by contrast, is a slow, gregorian-chant stile dirge, and the Lyrics go: "Ista mater est arvina
Ego feci heri illa"
The audience, unhappy with this choice of music, begin chanting Image, in the style of Alvin and the Chipmunks.
When the high pitched screech becomes unbearable, all the sound cuts, and three voices (each one being Adam singing with different pitch and timing) start singing "Chumps, chumps, row you chumps, gently down the stream.
Gangnam Style Acappela suddenly gets in, playing in the same Tempo of the Instrumental, because Gangnam Style goes with everything! However, instead of "Gangnam Style", the lyrics are "Adam Style".
Vuvuzelas start playing in the background; they keep getting louder until the music can no longer be heard.

The vuvuzelas and music suddenly stop. There are a few seconds of silence before the audience bursts into applause. The end.

There was no rule against double-posting, and most people had stopped contributing, so I ended the song. I am looking forward to Adam playing it. :)

I suffer from amusia so when I say "good" music I mean interesting. i find it fascinating how most people can listen to a song dozens of times without taking note of the lyrics, whereas it is all I care about. (And the volume. Quiet is good.)

Hey hey! It's not over until the fat lady sings! *Shot*

Okay, okay, but here's this:

Adam H wrote:2) You can play the role of the editor as well as the writer, by ordering and clarifying previous posts however you want.

I think I know (maybe I don't) from where the seconds of silence before the audience bursts into applause come from, (I think/hope) it's a reference to the OTT, where people put great thing all the time, but then, it may take several hours, or even days (once it took me 3 months to see it), for them to be appreciated due to the way things work.

So it's like an artist has finished singing long time ago, and just stands there, awkwardly, while the audience just stay there, staring, and not moving. He doesn't even know their reaction, or if they'll just leave without a reaction, and then, suddenly, BAM! The crowd goes crazy in love for the song, and they go on to applause it for even longer than the silence.

I think that's a great song ending, as I don't think I have seen it before, so I'm proposing these times:

The intro consists of a snare roll as the singer says "This song goes out to all the chumps in the audience. That's you, chumps!"
Then a one-handed guitarist starts an open-string melody. (The melody sounds like a repetitive intro to a Western, complete with sound effects of revolvers being fired.)

Vuvuzelas start playing in the background; they keep getting louder until the music can no longer be heard.
The vuvuzelas and music suddenly stop. There are 10 seconds of silence before the audience goes crazy because they loved the song so much and bursts into 20 seconds straight of epic applause. The end(?)

OK It'll take me a while but this will be done at some point. :) For now, feel free to change stuff without changing the basic structure.

I'm only going to do about one chorus from each of those "never give you up" songs, not a whole song's worth.

So... I'm sorry. I'm not good enough at life to get this done. I thought I was, but I'm not. It makes me sad, tbh.

Having said that, I do have something to share... :)
