My son doesn't have school today or tomorrow. How come I don't get PD days, huh!?

Professional Development. Kids get a day off school about once a month so their teachers can learn something new/catch up on lesson prep/get drunk in the break room.

Speaking of getting drunk in the break room, I never before saw alcohol consumed at work until I started working here. Maybe teachers do have it too easy...

On a somewhat related topic, I've started wondering recently if genetics might be a large contributor to an individual's happiness. Certainly we see individuals who just seem "naturally" happy (or unhappy, for that matter). It's possible that social conditioning is a larger factor that makes it seem like some are born happy, but more and more traits like empathy, temperament, and even political ideology are having their roots tied back to genetics in one way or another. It's seems possible that personal happiness could have an evolutionary basis as well, if only so that we don't have too many people in the tribe unhappy enough to rock the boat.

Just pondering.

It's a constant tug of war.
