4 color baduk

Postby phillip1882 » Sun Feb 05, 2017 7:23 pm UTC

looking for 3 players who:
know the rules of baduk/go/weiqi,
are willing to commit a few minutes a day to this topic for a while.
special rules: other than the standard rules of go, you should be aware that you can capture by surrounding a stone with up to 3 other colors.
a captured stone counts negatively toward the captured player, 1 point per stone.
komi, player 2 gets 3.5, player 3 gets 7.5 and player 4 gets 11.5

Seems interesting. I haven't played much go, but know the basic rules. (I was about 17 kyu on gokgs when I last played a few years ago).

As for the komi rules: isn't the whole point of fractional komi values to prevent draws, as in 2 player go, one player will finish with a fractional score and one won't. On the other hand, in 4 player go with these rules, with players 2, 3, and 4 all having something point 5 komi, draws would be possible between these players.

I'd suggest slightly modifying the komi rules so that player 2 gets 3.75, player 3 gets 7.5 and player 4 gets 11.25. This would completely eliminate the possibility of draws.

And I guess we need a gameboard. Will this do?

If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family Anatidae on our hands. –Douglas Adams

Bump.

anyone else want to play?

If not, we could always play 3 color baduk.
