Hmmm.

Okay, Magnolia grandiflora 'Victoria'? That's a variety name. ninjaed

As an icebreaker at a conference I attended, groups were each given a box of random LEGO pieces (including wheels), and we were instructed to build something that would get as many LEGO pieces as possible across the finish line with a single push. Then one by one, each group pushed its vehicle toward the finish line. None of us got our vehicles even halfway toward the finish line, until the last group. That group had just left all of their LEGOs in the box, and they slid that toward the finish line with a single push, and won.

I think heury just did the same thing.

X Sorbopyrus auricularis (Bolwyller Pear)

The capital X at the beginning of this tree's name means that it's a hybrid between two different genera--in this case mountain ash (genus Sorbus) and pear (genus Pyrus). Hybrids between two different species of the same genus have a lower case "x" between the genus name and the species name.

Spoiler:
Sorbopyrus is an intergeneric hybrid which originated sometime before 1610, probably in Europe, and has since been propagated as a clone. The name Sorbopyrus is derived from the two parents, mountain ash (Sorbus) and pear (Pyrus). In his Manual of Cultivated Trees and Shrubs, Alfred Rehder listed this plant as X Sorbopyrus auricularis (Knoop) Schneider. [...] Hillier calls this plant the "Bolwyller Pear". https://www.houzz.com/discussions/19807 ... nical-name

I'll never know what you'll find when you open up your letter box tomorrow
'Cause a little bird never tells me anything I want to know
She's my best friend, she's a sparrow
And I'll never never know what you never never never want to know
When you know what you are, O

Welcome, threetwoone!

The alphabet game continues:

Category: Birds

Rules: Anything goes. Common names, taxonomic names, other languages, names of fictional or actual birds. Heck, I'll even accept vaguely birdlike Pokémon. Include a picture if you want to.
