The elderly woman who won looked at Ellie, "Well, young man, would you like these cookies the nice machine made for me?" and walked off, leaving the money for Ellie.

Ellie unwillingly took the "cookies" from the slot machine only to hear a dark and omnious voice behind her say "Yes my young padawan, Welcome to the dark side"

Luckily, it was talking to the guy behind to her, who had just murdered three small children.

Ellie had become fireproof some time in the past, when she had had a chance encounter with a group of school children, who had accidentally become lost in a fictional land of pixies ruled over by a tyrannical wizard hell bent on causing as much unhappiness as possible.

Still a bit shaken from surviving an exploding building, Ellie ducked into the nearest bar, ordered a gin and tonic, and sat brooding at the counter, not noticing the strange man who sat across from her in the shadows.

Ellie was, as said before, fireproof, so this didn't affect her, as for Zap, well, he was probably dead. "It was for the best, thanks, crystal zombie!"
"Auuughh..." as everyone knows, this is, "You're welcome," in zombie.
Ellie giggled and skipped off, in a good mood from the hundreds of dollars she collected from the machine. The old lady was probably dead, too.

Fortunately, the author's spell check didn't recognize any of these words, and suggested the following replacement: "Now the earth became a happy place," to which Ellie, being within the novel's new, happy world, responded to marvelously.

Ellie sat down, relaxed, and smiled in this idyllic, utopian setting...before jolting upright suddenly, thinking: 'holy fuck, what was that about a motherfucking Crystal Zombie?'

Ellie had clearly been caught up into a wormhole...after traveling for an infinite amount of time (or was it no time at all?), she found herself back on solid ground again, but in a much different environment.
