Future Meetups... ?

Postby ravnos » Mon Sep 24, 2007 4:39 am UTC

Just an idea, but would anyone be interested in semi-monthly (maybe bi-monthly?) meetups by city? So say Boston people can get together, NYC people, etc. Today (yesterday now...) was a blast, but I didn't really get to actually meet anyone (my fault, what with the guitar playing and singing) and it would be fun to meet up with people again, and hang out. Just a thought...

Surely further meetings are dependent on Randall drawing suitable comics...

Not at all  We can take it upon ourselves to hang out with people.

I imagine that a huge thing like this one couldn't happen monthly, but I would love to have a monthly meetup or something.

And hey, a little creative GIMPing, and we've got xkcd comics for all of our meetups!

I think we should have a Calgary meetup. I know space_raptor is in Cowtown, and I noticed a couple people scattered about the fora that live in/around the Calgary region. We can meet up at Shanks or Kilkenny's and cheer/boo for the (F)lames!

Make Chicago so, indeed.

I'm open to weekend dates, and can likely gather a nucleus of other readers to bring along from the campus.

Is anyone else envisioning some kind of xkcd tour, where a random gathering of nerds migrates from park to park across the country?

I would be up for a monthly xkcd party near MIT. I could maybe even get funding for pizza through one of the many crazy student groups we have (but no promises on that). If you're interested, send email to <xkcdmit at [nick].net> and tell me what days you'd be available at 14:38.

I expect that as soon as I purchase a better boombox and collect the right soundtrack, there will be a planned "Strut-fest".

How about a meetup every equinox?

And perhaps some smaller monthly get-togethers too

The March equinox generally isn't great weather around Boston. Sometimes the St. Patrick's Day parade here has been postponed because of snow!

Shit, we should just see how many people we can "collect."

I'm down to strut ALL god damn day. Not sure if it'll be the same if Alisto's not there, but we'll manage if we have to.

It would be like Human Katamari Damacy!

And in the middle of the soundtrack I'll have to put a random "ROYAL RAINBOW!"

I'd be up for some sort of recurring meeting happening in the Boston area.
It'd be neat if there were such meetings at other cities to, that way I could visit them when I'm out traveling.

How exactly can we go to these meetups if they are in the future? I have no method of traveling through time to any other moment from the 'present'. Could one of you fellow forumers let me car-pool with you in your time-machine next time?

Anyone interested in an Erie, Cleveland, Buffalo area meetup?

Okay, maybe I was over the line with that "nerds" comment, but I was just kidding around, you know? I mean, we're all nerds here, right? That said, I don't appreciate your telling me off. As far as I know, you're not a moderator and you don't have the authority to order me around just because you don't care for my response to your public question. However, I'm willing to ignore it this time, as you seem like a pretty cool guy and, to be honest, I was totally floored by that "your mom" joke in your last post.

If so, yes. Alisto and I can make a tiny Jersey contingent.

I'm up for things in places that I haven't been before. And I haven't been many places. So NYC, meh, I've been there lots. But yes to Cleavland area or the west coast of Canada or someplace else.

I live in Storrs, CT, so Boston's doable and my neck of the woods is a good waypoint for anyone coming from NY, PA, or anything beyond that. I'd be down for more meetups, mostly because I missed the first one.

I live in Albany during college season, but I'd definitely be up for a Buffalo or Erie meetup if I'm home on a break. Not so sure about Cleveland, though, as I don't currently own a car.

Also, you'd have to get this lame stalker guy off your back.

Fortunately, he depends on me for all his transportation, so that shouldn't be a problem. I live in Erie, and am a big proponent of the place. So if we can get a handful of other people to come while it's still warm, I'd love to show off our beach and our kick ass-zoo... And maybe the gay couple that wears matching clothes and rides around town on a tandem bicycle.
On the other hand, if you know of any good spots in buffalo, I'd certainly be up for the trip. Plus, they have a subway for getting around. It's a tiny one, but at least it's not buses.

Absolutely. Just need to figure out how to get people there. Maybe we could find nearby 2600 meetings and build off of that ;) - I bet there are a lot of xkcd readers participating in those.
