Ooo, tell us more! Are you watching this race or participating? What kind of race is it?

Road cycling - one of the support races for the Phillip Island Cycling Grand Prix. It's my first ever road race, so I'll probably just run C grade. The plan is to just stay rubber-side down.

I am in Brazil, so attendance will be a little awkward.

Ryan, Courtney and I will definitely be present.
Who are you bringing, Jonathan?

I hope you are having fun in Brazil, Bruce. (:

Brazil! You better go to the Amazon for me, Bruce, there are just too many things out there that can potentially kill you. Awesomeness.

Oh, of course! I do now remember you giving me some advice about cycling.

Personally, when I go to the Island it's usually to watch the motorcycling 8)

Anyone want to obey the geohashing comic?

Going to the country this weekend so I can't come but I'd like to know how it turns out.

it's a shame that Melbourne is divided pretty-much into four 'geohashing' spots. None of the rectangles fit nicely over particularly interesting or particularly accessible places :P

It's a method of finding a random location near you - take your date and the opening value of the Dow Jones index, md5sum it, convert the two numbers to decimals, take the decimals and add them to the degree of latitude and longitude and voila, random geohashing location. For Melbourne CBD, today's (well, yesterday's because the Dow isn't open yet) is somewhere between Melton and Sunbury.

We could work out how to center a rectangle on Melbourne and use that, I guess.

Of course XKCD have defined Melbourne as -38, 145 so we can plug this into the Atom feed generator to get a Atom Geohash for Melbourne.
http://staticfree.info/geohash/atom/-38,145
Of course, this always puts us in the SE Melbourne graticule.

Cheers :)

Well, I propose that if we try out this geohashing thing, that we simply pick out the best of the four possible locations. Either that or we rotate through them, but it seems to me like it would be more enjoyable to have a selection.

Facebook is so crap, I'll never forgive the friend who induced me to get one. Ugh.

Also:
1. Get digital camera
2. Take photo
3. Like photo? No? repeat from step 2, if yes:
4. Upload photo to Facebook.

And there you have it :P

And frankly, a day in, the enjoyment /is/ already starting to decrease.

I'm pretty keen for Sunday, for whatever really :-)

Is this related to Meowgan having a ticket to travel to Melbs?

It was mostly related to Gnat having an xkcd order for some of us. But sure, what you said too!

Yeah, I was thinking of going to the zombie shuffle too. But I think I'll just end up watching it from the sidelines. Lame-o.

By the way, I thought that the next meetup was going to be next weekend, not this weekend. What's going on, people? If it's this weekend, then I absolutely cannot do Saturday (the 14th).

Honestly, I'd prefer it next weekend...

Man, I was even in the city today, though I was at Southbank looking at the fish rather than in Carlton hungering for braaaaaaains. Next weekend could work, though.

EDIT: OH! OH! NOW I understand why I saw the dead walking among us and eating lunch at Crown!

EDIT 2.0: Ha, I just found a friend of mine in that collection of photos. Would you believe I was mere hundreds of metres away at the Aquarium? So annoyed...

Geohash this weekend? Sounds great! I'll contribute my car if we can't fit in Bruce's. We should probably pick between the East and West graticules shouldn't we?

I am in! and it looks like my plans for saturday have evaporated, so I don't need to be back in the city in a rush, yay!

I will however need a ride if the spot is not conveniently located at a train station.

I propose we use the East graticule. I think most people are in the East, right? I'm near Frankston, so the East one would definitely be better for me. What about everyone else?
