Although doing that again sounds fun, it will be quite unlikely, I arrived home today.

I'll definitely be around. I really have to make it to one of these meetups sometime...

Alright, what we need to do is pick something to do.
So let's field suggestions on either things to do (picnics, films) or events (musicians, expos)

hoo-lay.

quickie heads-up. I've just added myself to the list of hashers for melb, and i'm gonna go hashing on a semi-random basis.

The idea at the moment is, i'll go on any day that the hash is in a public-ish (i'll define that) area and withing access by public transport + bike (and I remember to check of course). soon however, I'm hoping i'll have a car again (I have a long idea of soon... so potentially a couple of months), at which point i'll make a comitment to go every meetup day i'm in town.

hmm... that was slightly long for a quickie...

oh, and Hi by the way.

--mykaDragonBlue

(the wiki talk pages indicate this is a usefull method of comunication, hence the post. I was going to keep it at guessing, since that would add to the fun a bit. in many cases, i'll still do that)

Comedy festival's on at the mom, are there free public things? That might work.

I've noticed a new free event that I'd like to suggest:
At the Melbourne Writers festival every evening heaps of singers and god knows what else are taking a stage in a free 4 hour event. The main grab for me is the fact that musical comedian The Bedroom Philosopher will play a set but I would be happy to listen to a bunch of authors or whoever else turns up given it's free.

Do any of you see anything that interests you in this event?

Maybe we should just pick a date, then find someone who has a good space for it? Anytime significant enough in our community? Valentines day? :P

If you can give me two weeks notice then I can work pretty much any date. How about an urban exploration weekend or something? Last time I was in melbourne I saw a lot of abandoned warehouses and other such seedy places just begging to be explored.

I'd probably turn up if somebody organises it, although I'm unavailable every second Monday during the holidays. Don't really know about any abandoned warehouses, though, and I'm not exactly great at climbing.

I go back to work then, so my time is already allocated to moping and sleeping, but I'll try to drop by briefly if something is happening.

Hi all,

I'm looking at arranging an xkcd meetup, probably for the comedy festival.

FantasyProne and Joannac are with me in IRC at the moment. To get on our IRC channel:
1. download chatzilla. 2. type "/server irc.foonetic.net" 3. type "/join #xkcd-melbmeet"

I'll be online at 7.30pm tonight. I hope to see some of you then.

I am remembered! (or stuck in an old list).

Although I am not really active here any more I am not apposed to a meetup. Stand up isn't really my thing though. I am all 'grown up' these days and find that IRC is a time investment I cannot afford to make.

I'm not on xkcd much anymore either but I'm not oppose to a meet up. I'll get email notification for this topic, so if you end up deciding on something post it and I'll see.
Can't go on IRC tonight, getting a hair cut. I WILL BE ABLE TO SEE AGAIN!

It's melbourne. We're too laid-back and apathetic to do much. Takes up valuable coffee-quaffing time.

I'm actually in Geelong now, but I might make it into Melbourne for a meet. I'll hopefully be there for Supanova when it's on, too.

Post-post addendum: hmm, maybe I will be Thor for Supanova. :D

If you're going to organise it for MICF, you'll need to do so pretty quickly. People need notice of things and if you're planning on seeing shows, they tend to book out quick and suddenly.

If the date picked suits me, I'll tag along. If not, I won't, it's as simple as that :P

Hi everyone,
I talked to Fantasyprone, Dragon (and his friend Erendor), ToeofDoom and Zardoz today.

It seems like we've come to a plan.

We're going to have a picnic at Carlton Gardens at 12 midday on Saturday the 16th of April! Let's meet at the fountain.

After the picnic, we plan to visit the museum since it's free for concession-holders. The logic being that minimum price gives maximum participation for tightarse students ;)

<Toeofdoom> We're visiting the museum where the raptors will be scared off by even bigger dinosaurs?
<Toeofdoom> On the other hand, it has a million or so raptor entry points
<erendor> Museums are like graveyards for raptors, they'll be too scared
<dragon> i think assuming raptors know fear may be a problem

Image

I'll wear a no raptors shirt, I'll bring some bread and I'll bring some dips. Other people will be sure to bring other stuff. If not, we'll buy it when we get there. I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible there!

Sorry, I'm already booked for this on that day:

Don't want to hijack the event, but some people may be interested in this anyway, just FYI.
