The meet-up went off without a hitch.
eSOANEM, my girlfriend and I had some drinks at the Cheese and then we played a couple of rounds of Monty Python Flux. I managed with the feat of not winning a single game, but it was a lot of fun =)

Remember, next time you could be the lucky person who gets together a group of our fine forum members for merriment and confusing card games!

I'm somewhere in East Asia :(

But how's about another meetup sometime in July/August anyway? I still have a recipe for banana bread I've been dying to try from Fjafjan so I could bring some of that*

You might want to avoid any meetups in London from late July to early September. With the Olympics going on the place will be pretty crazy.

I'm not based in London, but I'm there for a week or two every few months, probably a little over a month in total every year. If this ever happens to coincide with a meetup I'll certainly try to get involved.

Decent candidate for meetups in late Jan would be the Science Museum Lates on the 29th of Jan - this time it's themed by the Large Hadron Collider.

I'm in the London area and would be very much up for going to a Science Museum late.

Another event that may be of interest to London-based forumites is Picocon. Definitely come if you're into speculative fiction (Charles Stross is speaking this year!), but come anyway even if you're not, because it's a lot of fun.

Ooh, I was thinking of maybe going to picocon anyway, there's probably going to be a contingent from my uni's sci-fi society going.

Also, hi Robin, I think we've met in meatspace before but I hadn't realised you were on the fora, I'm Tristan (because the username probably doesn't help in you knowing who I am) *waves*

That's actually the plan? The how-much also includes trains and accommodation(or do trains return that late?).

The Science Museum is open 1845 til 2200. Would that be it or do people want to get food before/drinks after?

I'm down for this if we can get some concrete-ish numbers.

Edit: Last train home for me is at 0015 from St Pancras.

EditEdit: PlasmaMan, you might wanna look into St Pancras to Wellingborough, over Euston to Northampton. The home journey costs £6 compared to £26!

EditEditEdit: If people want food, I can heartily recommend Five Guys near Covent Garden. The burgers are amazing and the refillable drinks machines eclipse that. Only a 13 minute tube journey away.

Man, organising things on forums is slow.

Last time I went I ate on the train there, drank there (but also drank after). Drinks after would be on an ad-hoc basis I'd imagine. I wouldn't be able to make it for food beforehand.

And yeah, based on concrete numbers I'm definitely down.

Current count: 2 (target no. = ?)

I've got the day off work, so I might head down early with the idea to specifically go to Five Guys. It's that good.

Someone who's been to the Lates thing before: Is the whole museum open? Do you get a chance to look around it? If yes, and no, I might well go early and look around the normal museum before the evening event.

As for target numbers, we need enough people for a Quiz team, I suppose. For the record, if no-one else knows the answer to a question I WILL say "I thiiiink it might be..." when in actual fact I have no idea. Don't be angry at me when I'm wrong.

I've not actually done the quiz before. We could, I suppose, but there wasn't any shortage of things to do without going to the quiz.

The whole museum is indeed open (for a given value of whole, the main bit is all there at least).
