I can be in the city a bit after 10 am (then we can wait for people till say, 10:30)
do you want to just meet at the balls or somewhere else?
and we'll need a way of identifying ourselves

Anyone going should meet at the mall's balls, with earphones, but only the right ear in. And then you just go up to them (don't be shy! Seriously, I've met people in similar I-don't-know-what-they-look-like situations and I approached the wrong guy and he's just like Oh hey btw can I borrow your phone and I let him and then he gave it back and he left and it wasn't awkward at all) and say "Yo, xkcd?" and yeah.

Monday next week then? We might as well wait otherwise it's just going to be us. What I want to know is why there are NO other people from Adelaide involved.

Sigh. I just don't think there's enough XKCD fans in Adelaide to pull this off. My last ditch suggestion would be to put it on Thursday and make it into a Facebook event.

Re: Adelaide, Australia Meetup
we don't need a big meetup just for the sake of a big meetup
we can always have another one, maybe we should just try a small one and plan ahead for another one
if you do want to meet up tomorrow, I need to know in the morning, early

Re: Adelaide, Australia Meetup
My friend who posts on here and I want to meet up too. We can try this again. I should be fine with most times Saturday or Sunday, and with school holidays coming up in a few weeks I will be available weekdays too. What dates are good for everyone else?

I *can't* do holiday weekdays, but most weekends will be fine. think the right earbud thing might be a bit hard to spot. How about earbuds that dangle into thin air?

I should be able to get into the city some weekends, but not until after the holidays.

Re: Adelaide, Australia Meetup
I can give an Adelaide meetup the air of respectability it needs, and I can probably convince Pez that it's worth his time, but only if it's not going to be a bunch of 13 year olds. I'm sure you're all perfectly decent chaps, but this whole thing simply screams "why don't you take a seat"

Is it possible to make that last post even more condescending? A prize to all that can.

Dude, it's mother-fucking TMT. Show some respect.
On that note, I think I can be on board for this beastie: name a time and place.

Well I will be at AvCon this year (july 24-25), so what do people think about this?

Re: Adelaide, Australia Meetup
Still tickets for that business? A casual romp around the park, or catch-up in a reputable establishment, would be more my cup of tea.

Re: Adelaide, Australia Meetup
This has gotta be the most people from Adelaide I've seen on one forum. Sweet
I'm not planning on going to AVcon, but it's school holidays coming up, and I don't want to be studying the whole time. I'm open to suggestions

I would agree with you there, but it was a suggestion last year (has it really been that long since I made this thread?).

I would think most people in Adelaide on this forum would have given up looking in the meetup thread a while ago.
I am open for most times (uni really does help with free time), but the next two weeks are exams for me.

Likewise.
After that, I have nothing on but work. And I can ask for days off if I know 2 weeks in advance.

Another Adelaidian reporting in. My last exam is the 28th of June, if that helps. And I agree with Pez re the park or the reputable establishment idea. Probably moreso the reputable establishment, seeing as we're coming into winter.

Re: Adelaide, Australia Meetup
Well, to keep the ball rolling, I propose we set the 29th of June as the date for our meetup. If that doesn't work for someone we can push it back. There seems to be a few of us interested so this could be quite good.
As to what we should do, I was thinking we should meet in Big Star on Rundle Street, if it's still in business, and go somewhere for coffee, lunch, or drinks. It shouldn't be hard finding each other. Thesaurus is both punctual and easily recognizable (he is tall enough, if nothing else), and we could do something like have one hand in a pocket and the other balled into a fist. You know, something casual but distinctive.
Wherever we go we'd want somewhere with seating for a large-ish group of people that isn't too busy. Brunelli's Cafe -- which used to be Cafe Buongiorno -- would be able to seat us all, and we could share pizzas. Kanoodles is cheaper but is always busy and has minimal seating. Cibos not only serves the best coffee in Adelaide, but it also has large tables upstairs to suit a group of people. Drinks are probably out, considering some of us may be under-aged, and Thesaurus has a membership with the Temperance Union, but the Ex is right there if we were in the mood. And, after, if we had time to kill, I think a visit to the museum would be suitably xkcdian.
Thoughts? Criticisms? Emotions?

Re: Adelaide, Australia Meetup
It would depend on time...I've got an English exam at 1pm that day, and I'mma be spending the whole morning reading-revising. That finishes at 4, and I have a dance lessons at 6. I might be able to pop by, but a later date would be preferable.
Thankfully, the English exam is my last one. So I could possibly make something on the thursday or the friday. Thursday would have to be a morning thing though, because formal/formal preparation will be in the afternoon.

Okay, so how does Friday or Thursday morning work for everyone else? That is, of the first/second July.

That would work quite well (although I strongly prefer during the day due to transport issues).
Re: Adelaide, Australia Meetup
I can do Thursday or Friday, I'm free for all of both days. Also pizza sounds good, unless its around morning tea time, in which case coffee and cake are equally as nice
.

Re: Adelaide, Australia Meetup
Hey, I only just got keeperofdakeys' PM today.
Flinders Uni holidays are the 5th to the 23rd*, and I have an exam on the 2nd (the deceptively named Fundamentals of Computing, which is actually an intro CS course and not a "how-to-use-Word" course, much a few of my fellow students' dismay), so that counts me out sadly
*I also wouldn't be able to come on weekends due to a scuba diving course, if a meeting were to happen during the hols.
But I'm definitely interested if another one were to happen down the track. *subscribes to reply notifications*
