One of the main bugbears of this meetup is also one of the main things stopping me from making preparations: my feet suck. (I was on crutches for a few weeks, a few weeks ago. The foots are better now but I still can't walk comfortably for more than a few blocks, or stand in place for more than a few minutes.)

I'll need to renew my passport. I could take a bus or a cab straight to the passport office, but there will be standing in line at some point, and then there will be a several-block walk back to the office. I just can't bring myself to do this right now. I should probably suck it up and see if it'll be as bad as I imagine. >.<

Once that's done, there's the meetup itself. I can probably get an express train to downtown Seattle or summat, and maybe rent a car once I'm there, but I'll likely still be required to walk a lot. (Unfortunately, trampolining will be right out. Between the feet and the neck troubles, bouncing like a banshee just isn't wise. I'll happily sit on the sidelines and take lots of pictures, though. :D )

So yeah, I just need to buckle down and do this. Even if it ends up wrecking my feet (again), well, they'll get better. And I don't really want to miss this on account of being a freakin' wimp.

June 12th happens to be the day of graduation ceremonies at the UW. Makes it a bit harder for myself (and quite a few other xkcd-reading Seattlites) to attend

Not lame. This means....

POXIC IS COMING!!!!!!! :D

*huggles happily*

Kells has said that Seattle has a good bus system and such, and hey, if your feet get sore walking I will give you a piggyback ride! :D (I have a strong back I could do that for a while I'm sure.)

Edit to crazy ninja that avoided ninja software: Aww, sorry. There was the group of 5 of us originally planning it for when we could do it :( I know quite a few of us will still be around Sunday and such, so I'm sure we could work out a secondary meet or something!

Edit #2 - Do people think it would be a good idea to make a Google Doc with those of us attending with phone numbers for contact? Everyone coming in from different areas - might be a good idea to have a place so we can get in contact with each other. You could also put on when you plan on being there or something...I would just hate for someone to get into Seattle and then not be able to find us or if the group gets separated and we can't find each other, something like that would be terribly sad.

Official Meetup T-Shirts and Badges (sorry, buttons) are now available from zazzle. Use the promotional code TSHIRTS10OFF for a 10% discount on all t-shirt purchases.

Oh, and while you're at it, why not buy one of Hazel's amazing robots?

+Edit: Corrected creator of the robots. My mistake.

Unable to order a shirt right now. I keep getting a message about "unable to process Paypal" or something. Nothing's wrong with my PP account -- I just used it last week.

I'll try again in a few days, I guess. >.<

Hmm, yes, I suppose I'll be there! The timing turns out to be perfectly opportune. I'll be arriving in Seattle for the summer just a couple weeks before the meetup.

That was quite likely me! I am around the campus every. single. day.

Sadly, Cait is not. She's off being expensive and stuff.

Still unable to Paypal a shirt, so I used a cc instead. At least it's ordered. I'd hate to be the only one without a superawesome Sunguramy shirt. I'd feel so ... un-xkcd. :)

Room booked for Friday and Saturday nights. Haven't booked a train or bus yet, since I'm not sure what's going on Sunday or until when. Also would be helpful to know if I should rent a car so I can get that done at the same time as the train/bus tix. Anyone opinion this?

Well, sad. But by your username alone, I'm kind of inclined to assume you go to UW...? Am I off here? Because if so, we can have a little meetup whenever.

Guild of Assassins in Seattle (GAS)

I'm hoping to run a game of assassins throughout the meetup if enough people are interested. PM me with your (real*) name and a codename** (not your forum name) to join.

* Real as in the name you will be known as at the meetup.
** I hope I don't need to say that codenames should not be obvious.

Guys, can I ask a question? How long/hard is it to get to Seattle from Denver? I'm an Indonesian, but I'll be in Denver on the 9th to 11th. I'm due back to Jakarta on the 13th, but I do think it's possible for me to re-route my schedule. I'm not really familiar with too many xkcdians being a lurker, but hey it'd be nice to just get a glimpse at the world's finest generation. :D

It would be about a three-hour flight, I think, or maybe four. So yeah, pretty far, but not too complicated since you can usually go direct from Denver airport to Seattle.

Vancouver BC, so that won't work. I've more or less decided to take the train down and bus back home, or vice versa. It's just a question of whether I take a cab from the station to the hotel, or rent a car and stress over directions.

Speaking as someone who recently moved to Seattle from Denver, I can say it's very possible if you have infinite airline money. United, Southwest, and Frontier Airlines all hub in Denver (plus Southwest is awesome because they check your bags for free), so you can go directly from there to pretty much anywhere in the entire country. International flights, you're probably gonna have to transfer through Chicago, LAX, or JFK. It's a 2 1/2 hour flight, roughly, so 3 hours if you include taxi time I guess.

You can usually get dirt-cheap tickets by bidding on name-your-own-price on priceline.com, so if you score there a detour to Seattle could possibly be less than $200 even on this short of notice.

It's 1300 miles (~21 hours elapsed driving) by highway, though, so if you were planning on driving I would have to tell you it's probably not going to happen.

OK, so we're like a week away. I really need to reserve a spot on the train/bus, soonish.

And hey, I was just reminded of the existence of the Archie McPhee store! I haven't tried yet to figure out how close it is to the hotel or Sky High, but I'll get around to that. Just wanted to make a note here so I don't forget. (Bacon air fresheners! Pickle-flavoured dental floss! Pi Pie puzzles! Whee!)

Hey, that place is rad. It's not dazzlingly close to either the hotel or Sky High, but as I recall we're kicking off our event in Gasworks, which happens to be relatively close... It's definitely worth a browse if we have time.

So how are we swinging the reservations? Do they have an open time we're all showing up for?
