eh? is an integral part of my vocabulary. It is also never complete without the question mark, eh?
and, I have always done schedule with a hard 'ch' and 'dule' being 2 syllables, the 'd' being a soft dj sound.

And I'm starting to look at my bank account and hoping I can pay for school and rent, so plan without me  No flaming dance of awesomeness for you.

For sure. Once my finals are done (mid August), I will figure out what I'm doing.

I rarely actually use "eh?" unless I'm purposely trying to sound Canadian. I'm from the west coast though. I don't think we perpetuate as many of the "typical" Canadian stereotypes out here.

If I go, I'll find out in the next week or two, I'll be driving and can take up to .. say 3 other people comfortably. Just to let you know it's a '05 corolla and I drive with the seat wayyy back.

I'm so gangster.

Good luck! I sincerely, sincerely hope you pass. It would make things bright and shiny and sunny for my planning ventures. (Well, not sunny. Still cloudy and difficult, but not impossible like they were before.)

Gordon! Do you want to be my backup plan? I call a seat in Gordon's car if this schemeroo falls through.

So people who are still in are
meta

and me. If one more person drops out, we'll all fit in Gordon's car! Not that I want anyone to drop out. But we could definitely just rent a car (which will be considerably cheaper) instead of a van.

Is Pi not coming? I like Pi why isn't he coming?

My car does in fact have 5 seats, so if need be you can all cram in. Plus splitting gas that extra way could help. Do these people have pictures up so I can judge books by covers and deem them safe to allow in my automobile? I suppose if Ren thinks they're cool I'll trust that. Though she does play the Oboe.....

Well at least if any of you jump me it'll be super hot.

I don't mind taking a full car load if that's all there is going we might as well.. just make sure everyone is comfortable sitting together in a car for that long. Also where in Southern Ontario are all these people. I really should read through this thread, and I will later tonight at work.

If you're at least 18 then you can come in my car too. I don't think they'll let you cross the border without your parents if you're not 18.

Well they might be able to write you a letter saying it's ok

I think Pi said he wasn't coming because of school starting.
No because he didn't think of it early enough. First decided not too, and is now regretting it.

Randy will show up won't he! GOD DAMMIT! and there will be fireworks and raptor cages for sale!

Oh and if no one suggested it, um someone should sell XKCD shirts!

Btw, any plans yet, I am re-thinking now. Can't drive and such though.

jebus man, this isnt an xkcd CONVENTION... yet.

what an odd convention that would be... mathmeticians, physicists, writers, and run-of-the-mill internet enthusiasts all gathered together because of one comic.

Where is the carpool leaving from? Still Waterloo?
I'm going to be in Ottawa in September so where is the closest place I could meet? Toronto? Kingston? Or should I take a bus to Waterloo? I don't know Ontario very well, I was just looking it up on google and the greyhound site today but it looked like Ottawa was not really in the direction of Boston.

Looks like you'll be going through Syracuse. I'll be in Ithaca, NY then and I get free/cheap (I forget which) bus service to Syracuse from the University. If any of you still have room, is there any chance you could hop off the highway and pick me up there? I'm sure I could come up with some gas money. I also don't eat much and I promise I don't smell bad. Plus, I'm from around Boston and could show you how to get to the park.

I'll be leaving from Thunder Bay either one or two days in advance depending on where I feel like sleeping. I already offered to pick RG up from Ottawa on my way from Thunder Bay -> Cambridge/Waterloo, so I don't have any problem stopping there on the way down. If you travel within Canada (I usually dip down through Michigan) you'd be surprised just how far East you actually have to travel.

Pretty much I'm going from the top of Ontario to the bottom, so I don't have any problem picking people up on the way as long as:

1) You don't mind spending at least one night in the Cambridge/Waterloo area since I don't feel like driving Thunder Bay -> Boston in one day (and it would take roughtly 24 hours of driving).

2) You are at least 18 and have some sort of ID (I don't need border hassles)

3) You aren't sketchy mc sketcherson.

4) You don't try doing something stupid like bringing drugs across the border. If you're into that I'm sure you can find some down there, they aren't quite as lax about that down there as we are up here.

If you both want to be in Ottawa then for sure I'll pick you up. What I'll probably do is spend the night there then (I think it's about 10 hours from T.B. to Ottawa, where as if I went straight to Toronto it's 14) I don't feel like doing all that driving one day, then all the way to Boston the next.

I booked the time off work, right now I have time off starting the 16th, but I'm going to try to push it back so that I don't start taking time off until the 18th just so if you all want to plan to be in Ottawa on the 19th or 20th.

What I'm thinking is: I spend Wednesday night in Ottawa, we all spend Thursday night in Cambridge/Waterloo area and that puts us in Boston for Friday night.

Wow, Ottawa is actually further than Toronto from Thunder Bay. I thought Ottawa was more North and less East :( ahh well

Thunder Bay to Ottawa
Google says 18 hours, Gordon says 15.

Ottawa to Cambridge
Google says 5.5 hours, Gordon says .. 4ish depending on time of day

Cambridge to Boston
Google says 9 hours, Gordon says .. googles pretty smart, took me about 6.5 to get just inside MA last time I met up with someone there (literally just over the border) so 2.5 hours to span MA is probably pretty good. This really depends on border traffic.

j07 and meta: are you both coming for sure, 100%?

How far is it from O'Tawa to Boston? I might be able to see my way clear to bus/take the train to Ottawa on Friday.

Especially considering I'm sort of the one you have to go out of your way for.

Well what do you know, that would be quicker.

It means we'd have to pass through Montreal though *shudders*

Ya if you could that would make a whole whack of sense... if I am in fact driving these two people.

Edit:
689 km – about 7 hours 9 mins

Okay, so I can get a Greyhound from Kitchener to Ottawa for about $90, round trip. Which might be okay.
I *think* I budgeted enough for this.

However, this means you'd be tied to "whenever the fucking-bus gets there".

Also, when are we planning on coming back?

All right, if anyone who has room picks me up in Syracuse (anyone coming from Cambridge/Toronto/That Area will go through it on the highway), then you can stay at my family's house in Massachusetts, about half an hour from the meeting place. We should be able to put up a car's worth of people with no problems.
