probably when gojoe comes out here... he said 2 months or so, which is probably close to when we'd start talking about for it anyway.

Every other day. You and me and UNSW.

Actually 2 months sounds good. 19th of April or 26th as a tentative date?

Even though I'm the new guy, that end of April is good for me.

I've not made plans for April yet. Might be a smart move to wait until Gojoe tells us some dates if we want to do a meet to celebrate his presence.

Just for reference, I'll next be in Sydney around this time next month, and then after that the weekend of Anzac Day.

I'll be in Brisbane from just after Easter until ANZAC Day, but I'll be in Sydney for ANZAC weekend. Can't make any promises though; I have two major essays due when I get back to uni the next week. If I'm making good progress on them I'll be there, but if I need the time I'll have to give it a miss.

Hello, Sydneysiders from a Melbourne xkcd-fan.
I'm stopping by Sydney in around a month and I'd love to meet some of you.
Specifically, I'm there for the Thursday evening of April 16 through to the Saturday morning of April 18.
So if you guys would like to meet up for a picnic, a film, or whatever else is happening in Sydney at that time, I'd love to see you, whether it's just a couple of you or a whole crowd.

Whereabouts in Sydney are you going to be?

I have that friday evening off Uni, but will be in the city until 4pm in another class. If you want to just hang out somewhere in there after that, I wouldn't mind meeting up with another xkcd fan. I know there are a few more of us sydneyites at some of the unis around there that may at least be heading back through central sometime on Friday afternoon.

thoughts?

That sounds like an emerging plan. I'm likely to finish watching my mum being awarded with her PhD at around 2, which means I might be at my city hotel room at about 3. So it's pretty sweet timing.

Apart from saying that we keenly invite anyone interested to come along, we ought to decide where to go. A film, a park, a comedy show, a wander about (use spontaneity or something).

With university, I have found that things tend to be on often in the city, and there tends to be free or cheap food at these events. I suggest we find out if one of these would be cool.

I can go all the way into the city for a while on that Friday. I'll need to be back at Central station by 4ish, though.

I'd be up for mid this month, something like the 18th?

And as a happy little benefit, it's during my Uni mid-semester break :)

EDIT: Just read theduffman's post. Perhaps it'd be best not to have it on the day he leaves. And the friday is no good for me.

So Thursday the 16th then?

If other people are up for thursday, I am working, but will leave North Ryde at 5pm... and can be in the city by around 6. I also shouldn't need to be at uni until 1 on friday, so I don't mind being in the city until late.

EDIT: the friday is actually not good for me anymore, either. The class I thought I didn't have is actually on because of the fact it's not on this week thanks to good friday.

Well I'll be working in the city until the end of the month, if we're organising for a weekday then evening would be best for me since I can just go straight from work.

Since uni is off for the week, I'd be fine with any day as long as its not friday, saturday or sunday. Well, actually, if its after midday on friday I'd be fine with it.
If its just an evening thing, that's cool, but I'll need to know whether it'll be over 18's only.

And I vote we keep it for all ages :)

I know you.

Umm, I have to leave to get home at about 10, so 8ish from the city. 9 if we're on top of a train station.

I work in the CBD (corner of George and Bathurst if anyone's up for lunch or coffee one day), so I'm around every weekday. Of course, that means I'm unavailable 9-5 for fora shenanigans.

I am totally okay with pretty much any day next week except the 18th, so the 16th should be fine. The only other thing I'd be doing is sleeping and uni assignmenting.

During the week = no Phlip. Leaving work about 5:30ish, plus travel time into the city would mean arriving around 7:30ish. And then having to leave about 8-9 or so in order to get back here at any sane time. Not really worth the effort (and I imagine it's even worse for the Novacastrians here, probably have to leave before they arrive).

wow, there's been some flurry of activity regarding this Sydney meetup.

I have to apologise that I won't actually be available Thursday evening after all. As it turns out, my mum booked a flight for Friday morning placing me in Sydney from 9am Friday the 17th to 6pm Saturday the 18th. It seems like plenty of Sydneysideers are available Thursday and it would be unfair to change the day just for me on the basis that I made an early post :P Assuming it's Thursday, I hope you have a really fun time.

ps I'm still in Sydney with no inspirationally better things to do Friday evening through Saturday morning.

I can do the 16th, as long as it isn't between 0800 and 1800 (work hours + travel time each way).

Also, we need to organise this so that as many people as possible can come. Especially people from other states/rural areas.

I'll be organising another meetup on May 23rd (my birthday), so perhaps people from other states would be better off waiting until then, as they'll have a lot more time to plan ahead. And my birthday will be more awesome.

Well I don't expect people to turn up at all, i'll just be at coogee with friends and i figure i may as well invite the xkcd community too :P I don't care how many actually come. Anyway, more on that when I've actually organised it.

For the moment, is it Thursday the 16th, 6pm? Anyone want to suggest a place?

We generally meet at town hall and go on from there.

so, anyone know a decent, cheap place to eat?
