hermaj should be on my train, too.

megan, i don't think that was the train i was planning to catch, actually.
Upon further inspection, it only even exists on weekdays, so you may want to check that. They get to central at half-past each hour only on weekends.

Yeah, okay, my operation of the cityrail website was less than satisfactory. I shall instead be catching the 10:31, and probably be mooching around for half an hour.

you mean 10:31 as in gets to central then? I could be convinced to catch a bus that lands me in central at 10:30 to give you some company to mooch with.

Today in uninformative point form (it all makes sense if you were there!):
  • Tegan was (technically) late, crazy smiling cartoon face guy didn't show.
  • Dogs like the taste of train drivers.
  • Erasmus has bad choice in pubs.
  • Free Internet maybe, but DHCP is a premium extra.
  • We went to a heavy metal music store, and did Rubik's Cubes.
  • Our nemeses the ibises returned, they're scared of either swords or Erasmus, it's not clear which.
  • Randall was fun, but he looked more like an octapus by the end of the day.
  • Abstract art is actual size.
  • MaJ has really good posture.
  • Marble jelly is awesome.
  • There is a conspiracy among Sydney shopkeepers to not sell balloons. Pipecleaners are reasonable but imperfect substitutes.

Well, there are four reasons why I missed the last two meetups.

The first is because I'm in Canberra. Pretty big reason in itself, although it hasn't really stopped me before.

The second is because I have very little free time these days (incidentally, if anyone is likely to be in Canberra the week of July 25th and would like to go to a black-tie event, let me know ;)).

The third is because my parents have moved up to the Central Coast, making trips to Sydney much trickier. As I don't particularly like the idea of staying in Kincumber and commuting down to Sydney on a daily basis (it would be fine if there were some decent public transport between Kincumber and one of the train stations on weekends, but from what I hear the buses are not fantastic), doing stuff in Sydney now requires finding someone with a spare couch. Which I can do, but it requires some planning beforehand and I'm the sort of person who doesn't like imposing on people (no matter how much they say it isn't imposing).

The fourth reason is that back in March I went on a trip to Perth and took my laptop with me, only for it to die somewhere along the way. It was then a month before I got it back from repairs, and for some strange reason I have avoided the forums since then. (I think it was some desire to catch up on *everything* I'd missed, which is obviously a little difficult. I'm working on catching up on some of the more active discussions right now.)

So it was only seeing an album of photos from the last meetup that has finally dragged me back. I'll try to check this forum more regularly, and maybe if given enough warning I can make it to the next event. And, as always, if anyone's coming to Canberra just drop me a line or post in the Canberra meetup thread (now on the 2nd page of this forum) and we'll see what we can do.

Ooh, singing is fun, I'd be up for it... I probably wouldn't be particularly good, but that probably won't stop me. I've never done actual karaoke, though... what's it like?

Though... does Facebook have a videos-of-people-making-fools-of-themselves feature, like it does for photos, for keeping record of our efforts for future generations to see? This would severely affect the decision...

It does. It very much does. Thing is, you need some sort of method for video-ing.

yeah, tegan told me she was going to put up the videos of me chasing off the ibises, but it hasn't eventuated.

karaoke is something I've never done and will be absolutely horrible at. Won't necessarily stop me from doing it, though.

Karaoke is great fun. I can't sing to save myself, but that doesn't stop me ;) I went on Friday actually with some workmates (it seems to be the semi-regular team event when we can't think of anything better to do).

I'd certainly be up for it.

I loves me some karaoke, as long as it's "karaoke box" style rather than "karaoke bar". The difference being that a karaoke bar is basically a pub with karaoke, whereas a karaoke box is one of those places where you book a room to sing in. Karaoke World near Hyde Park is pretty good, as hasn't been firebombed in quite a while now. There are a few other good places, but I'd have to ask around because I can't remember their names.

Well, 13th-15th aren't on the weekend, that's fine by me but people might have work or classes. With that being said, I've been booked up by parties every weekend till uni restarts, so that's a big problem.

The problem I have with karaoke is that most of what I listen to would never be found in any songlist. Especially if the place is Japanese. However, I'm perfectly happy to go along, check it out, watch people make fools of themselves, and IF I can find a song I like I'll actually sing it. Drinking would be an additional bonus.

It's 13th(monday), 14th (tuesday) or 15th(surprisingly enough, wednesday) I'll tentatively put a vote down for the wednesday because it's the futherest away so more time to plan etc, but I'm honestly cool with any of those 3 days.
