Seeming Coincidences

Postby Heptadecagon » Sun Jun 10, 2012 12:23 am UTC

While working on a problem I figured that the sum n=1 to infinity (1/(2^(2n-1)*(4n-2)))*(-1)^(n-1) = (arctan(1/2))/2 , and checked it with wolframalpha, but forgot to put the '' *(-1)^(n-1) '' in the input. However I did not realize this, because the answer wolframalpha gave me was (arctanh(1/2))/2 , appearing to be the same thing. And the difference between the two values is a mere .04.... I was confused for a while, and then finally realized my mistake. Has anyone else ever had anything similar ever happen, coincidences and such?
