For the discussion of the sciences. Physics problems, chemistry equations, biology weirdness, it all goes here.

Finding a Quote

Postby DreadArchon » Sun Aug 29, 2010 5:14 pm UTC

I recently heard a quote along the lines of "Being the first to make a discovery never matters; the person who gets something accepted is the one who gets credit." I think it was attributed to a physicist.

I'm trying to figure out who was known for this quote--if it even really is a "known" quote--but my attempts to Google variations of this have been frustrating. Does anyone recognize this?

Are you maybe thinking of Stigler's Law of Eponymy?
Some people tell me I laugh too much. To them I say, "ha ha ha!"

No, it wasn't about naming, just general credit.

Will the person who you find that it's attributed to, be the person who first said it, or the one who popularized the saying? ;)
