Hey. I'm nils (as you can see). I used to visit xkcd solely for the comic, but then I succumbed and became a lurker which made me register now that the option is open again. I'm quite interested in engineering, math, history, and the languages. I'm fluent in Spanish and semi-fluent in English and I'd love to learn more. I like mountain biking when the weather permits and I'm trying to run more than I did before (which was very little). I love to play and geek out about guitar. If I did as much playing as I did geeking out I'd be quite good by now.

Oh Hai, I'm Social (by name and nature) long time reader and forum lurker! Decidedto sign up so I can actually add something to the community that has provided with many hours of enjoyment.

I'm 20 years old as of a few days ago ( it still feels weird not being a teenager ) I live in the awesomeness that is the United Kingdom.
I do enjoy gaming of various kinds, though i mainly stick to consoles or PC games, I have more anime/manga than what can be deemed healthy and I terrorise old ladies by driving my motorbike to go everywhere.

And finally excuse any spelling errors that may crrep into my posts as I have a mild dyslexia.

I'm a recent college graduate with a degree in History (which I'm sure is loltastic to what I assume is predominantly math/science forum if the comics are an indication of anything.) My concentration was American history, though I took many courses in political science and economics so I'm not completely "out there" in history land. And yes, this WAS a great year to graduate college with a History degree. Thankfully, I knew going in I wanted to pursue a career in law. I'm currently taking the year "off," except not really because I'm using it to work and save up a bit for the onslaught of law school tuition. I have not yet applied and only have a vague idea of where I would like to.

what you're into

Generally, movies, music, books, and sports. More specifically, steady favorites in the movie department are The Princess Bride, Jerry Maguire, EPIC WAR FILMS (Troy, Gladiator, 300, anything with muscular, half-naked heroes) and virtually anything I've seen by Wes Anderson. I'll be happy to post a link to my DVD collection once I reach 5 posts. Unfortunately, I have poor taste in music so I won't divulge that information here until I've made at least one "forum friend" to defend me. I'm currently reading "The Great Shame" and my favorite sports team is the New York Yankees, though the sport I most enjoy playing myself is basketball. My kickball team is the reigning champion, so don't mess.

what you do.

For the past two years I interned at a Johnson and Johnson company doing things that have nothing to do with my major but it was flexible and paid well (it involved documentation, for the curious.) It was boring but it was the perfect job for a college student. That ended a few weeks ago (since I am no longer in school) and as of right now I am figuring out what specifically I'd like to do. My family owns a flag business and I usually spend my summers installing flag poles and doing other related flag work. I'm looking into finding a job at least somewhat related to the legal field even if it means getting coffee (something typically reserved for first year law students, boohoo.) I am not too torn up about whatever I end up doing this year since it's temporary. There are some law/policy/public choice seminars I am thinking of applying for, but that would require forfeiting money, so. Worst case scenario I end up selling expensive golf gear to old white guys again.

I joined this forum because I was bored at my other ones and I thought the discussion here was more thought-provoking. Though I joined primarily because I was curious about what other people had to say, I enjoy a good debate and don't mind getting my you-know-what handed to me on occasion if it sheds new light on whatever topic was being discussed. I tend to identify as a libertarian though I prefer "classical liberal" and have not joined the Libertarian party because, despite my disposition, I don't like the company of most libertarians, either (go figure.) I think government providing roads is okay and I do not believe Obama is a Socialist. I drink like a fish. I am pretty sure the libertarian thing is not related to the drinking, but I'd be happy to participate in some controlled experiments if anybody would like to test that out (and foot the bill.)

I read the rules and am familiar with forum courtesy, but uh, be nice if I break some XKCD-specific forum faux pas within the next few days.

While the irony displayed in your post was amazing, Zohar, and I applaud you for it, I think that Themis should know that her INTRO THREAD THE THIRD post was easily one of the most well-thought out ones in this entire thread.

I'm going to introduce myself as then I will feel like I've made a step towards something. However, it might give me less of a "I'm really new" excuse when I say something stupid.
I'm Siobhan, or Shinobi, and I'm pretty boring really. Every other thing I say tends to be total rubbish, so I hope that this is an odd (or even, I'm not sure how I started) numbered post. I like reading, writing, films and music, which a bit ambiguous, and I think that plain chocolate digestives are the best biscuit ever. I, like many other people it seems, came on here after lurking around for a while in the dark corners. So be nice, as my eyes haven't adjusted to the light yet.

Hello!

My names Allie, which is actually a nickname. My middle name is cooler, and from a french, lesbian actress. My last name is Scottish.
I play polo, and work very hard to be able to do it. I used to play soccer and danced for a brief time, but bad joints and some other health problems made me stop anything involving my legs. I also play guitar and sing, and overall love anything musical (except for rap generally, polka, some folk, and some other stuff...)
Im interested in learning overall, but especially Psychology and Theatre, Science and Maths, and I guess Literature is good but nothing special for me.
My favorite color is green, with black being a close runner up. I have brown/ reddish/ firey hair, extremely pale skin, and wear alot of black.
Im very interested in computer science, just dont know where to start.. Insight would be much appreciated :)

Howdy yall, I've been reading the comic for a while and I've decided to join the forums because it seems set up well for intelligent discussions, unlike most of the other forums I have been on. However I probably will not be very active because I've just never done much posting in any forum. And to be perfectly honest, I imagine most of my posting will be me begging for answers in the help desk or coding forums.

Anyways, about me, I have recently graduated with a BS in Electrical Engineering, and will be starting PhD work in the same field in the Fall. I'd like to mention my favorite professor I took a class from, Dr.Norman Thagard. You can read his Wikipedia article if you want, but fighter pilot/medical doctor/electrical engineer/astronaut pretty much sums it up.

I enjoy making crap with Blender3d and programing in Python. However, I suck at both because I spend too much time on my other hobby: video games.

My name's vincent, I'm 20 and I live in Montreal and will so for the next 3 years at least, but I would really like to study/live abroad. I have a DEC (Cegep Education Diploma, sort of a useless general education degree between high school and university) in social sciences, and one half-done in literature prior to changing. I'm rebranching toward a Pure & Applied math degree in fall '09 at Concordia University because logic is really my thing, instead of economics as I had previously thought.

I alternate between working as cook in bistros/steak houses during the school year and biking/hitchhiking across the country during the summer. I'm flying to Mexico in about a month, doing the whole country on a road trip and finishing at Burning Man before coming back. I'm a big fan of hitchhiking, hitchhiker's guide and mountain hiking, math, physics, political economy, philosphy, literature, languages and drug-free, endorphin-induced rush. I love getting lost in a new city.

I live in Poland and my name is Jacek [jat͡sɛk]. Im 31, and my job is something between tech writer and graphic designer, but lots of other thing interest me, which is the curse of my life. And I don't really like introducing myself, so this is it for now.

But I can tell you why I love xkcd: for when I don't get it at all and then spend a good hour on wikipedia to find out what the hell could it be about and when I finally get it — it's still funny. That doesn't hold true for certain cultural references, but when it's about science — it works, bitches.

I'm such a rebel that this is my second post.

Hi everyone. I'm a schoolnerd by day and a computergeek by night. I like math, science and programming. I currently go to highschool.

This summer I'm actually going to the MIT Minority Introduction to Technology Engineering and Science summer program, so I'm currently really excited about that.

I tend to ramble on, digress, go on wild tangents and - ooh look, shiny.

I've read the comics for a long while, I've lurked for a medium while, and this is my second post in a short while.

Hopefully these whiles never have false conditionals inside them.

My interests include zombies, dinosaurs, zombie dinosaurs, and robots.

I hope to go to college and get a computer science degree which I will use to rule the world obtain a job that I will enjoy.

It's time to embarrass myself in front of my peers! That's my second favourite time of all! (After Smile Time, y'see.)

Anyways, hi! You can call me Miss, or Ace, or anything you like (although I'm trying to break "Ace" in as the new nickname; so far it's not catching on). I'm an 18-year-old bum from Australia who sits around all day entertaining dreams of being a professional novelist-slash-possibly-screenwriter. I am female (gasp!), a feminist (gasp!) and a Joss Whedon fan to the very core, and I also teach baby chinchillas to read. Gasp?

I love books, particularly those with the name "Terry Pratchett" embossed in gold on their fancy paper overcover, and various completely unrelated television shows including everything Joss Whedon has ever made, Battlestar Galactica, Pushing Daisies, Gilmore Girls, MASH, Doctor Who (both "nu" and old school) Due South and many more! Ask me how! Or not, because it's 6am and I would really rather go to sleep than answer pointless questions.

Oh, and I'm a Star Trek: TOS fan and thought the new movie was pretty awesome and saw it, yes, four times (so far). I just thought I'd get that out of the way.

I'm currently writing a novel which I never tell anyone anything about, and I RP on the internet to kill time and keep in practice with the writing thing (because the novel gets slacked off from far too much).

Other interests of mine include smiling, laughing, gleeing, being happy, wearing funny hats, blueberry eating, sock hops, singing in public and existing, and like Alice, I try to believe three impossible things before breakfast.

And now this post is far longer than I intended and I'm going to bed. Any questions? Please direct them...well, here. I shall return come the morrow.

Hello humans of Echochamber [xkcd]
I'm Apathy. A 21 year old guy living in Sweden. Nice to meet all off you. :)
I can't really put a title on what I do since I don't have an "official" occupation yet so I'll just tell you about the things that keep me busy. Usually you can find me creating art in some way, be it traditional or digital. I've done a bunch of designing as well but not for money, until now anyway. At the moment I'm working on a web design project that will hopefully end up the way I want it to. :roll: I'm not a professional or anything but I got some talent and that counts for something, right? I'm struggling mostly with coding languages and stuff, but hopefully I'll get the hang of it. :?

Anyway, I like reading, watching movies etc. most media related stuff. When it comes to genres I'm mostly into down to earth "realistic" kinda scenarios, be it books, games or films. For games there are certain major exceptions. :wink: When it comes to music It's mostly Rock I think, if it got some sweet guitar riffs and bearable singing I'll probably listen to it. :)

Thats about it I think, after reading all the comics I'm hooked on this now so I decided to join in and see whats up in here.

Greetings!

I'm a learning technologist at a university in a port city in the south of England (you know, the one that's always confused with the other one), and although I live there, I am originally from Sweden. I'm half Swedish, half Scottish (or 1/2 Swedish, 1/4 Scottish, 1/4 Canadian - or 1/2 Swedish, 3/8 Scottish, 1/8 English, or any combination thereof, depending on how you count; don't worry, it confuses me too).

I stumbled across XKCD a while back, but have only just joined the forum (hence this post, I suppose). I have recently discovered that maths isn't quite what I was led to believe it was at school, so my new-found interest in the programming language of the universe may lead me to lurk in the maths forum. My other interest include programming and general computer-related trickery. I have a nasty habit of overusing brackets (as you may have noticed). Perhaps I should be a Lisp programmer...

Anyway, if there's anything else you want to know, feel free to ask.
On two occasions I have been asked: "Pray, Mr. Babbage, if you put into the machine wrong figures, will the right answers come out?" I am not able rightly to apprehend the confusion of ideas that could provoke such a question.
