Welcome to the fora! I don't usually reply to newcomers' messages (it seems like Monika should be the Official Fora Greeter) but your username is really cute and I felt compelled to reply. :)

Hello everybody, I've read about some of the stuff the XKCD fan base has done and decided I wanted to get to know the kind of people who randomly throw giant parties and build schools. Plus, I figured there were worse forums for a newbie coder to frequent.

Well, I'm another Escapist guy (although I don't see much wrong with it now).

I just want a brief change - if I like this place, I'll stick around.

Oh man two Escapists posting in the intro thread.

Well its Sleek here, Cyber Celeb from The Escapist, but growing rather tired of terrible discussion topics and feel this is a rather nice looking forum.

Well you are probably more than correct on that, the reason I even found this forum is because of a user named Furburt, it seems the Escapist has a way of irking people a bit and sometimes we just need to get away. I also here the discussion here is of a much higher caliber than other sites.

Hello everyone. I had an account wayyyyyy back when but only made about three posts and have long since redefined my whole internet persona (which means I'll become active on forums I join*). This account is actually my first creation of my new Internet ID™ and from here I plan to spread out amongst the web-o-sphere with little projects and insights and such. Why did I pick xkcd to start? Because I'm currently at work and thus without the resources to start anything else. Also, once I return to my place of residence I'll get together an interesting avatar and such.

But enough about what and why, let's get to the who. I'm currently attending the University of Nevada, Reno and tossing around Psychology, English and Education in regards to my major/minor/profession/obsession. One that note English and the literary arts are my bread and butter, so expect log winded and overly wordy replies which make use of excessive vocabulary not known for its popularity. tl;dr I like writing pretty. I enjoy video games as well as any gamer should (with Zelda being at the top as referenced by my Triforce tattoo) and am only not in possession of Sony consoles.

Beyond that, I've been reading xkcd for at least 2-3 years now, and it's definitely at or near my webcomic apex. Being the nerdy/geeky male that I am, I feel very much at home with it (though not to the extent that Comic-con makes me feel).

Anywho, that's some basic wordage and I'll be sure to assault you with further text during my time here.

Well, normally, I don't do intro posts, since the one board I frequent most has a rule against them, telling new users "just dive in!" (That board also doesn't track post-counts, just so no one can wave around their e-peen.)

Hello, my name's Dave. I live in New Jersey. I'm 23, trying my hardest at this thing that is "majoring in Computer Science". I keep getting sucked into the Gravity Well that is TVTropes, and I've been told that I have Asperger's, though I think that's all hogwash.

Welcome, Visk, You will probably enjoy the linguistics forum :) .

Welcome, mowdownjoe, who doesn't do introductions :) . Unless a psychiatrist or psychological therapist told you you got Asperger's after careful analysis, you are right to believe it's hogwash. It's good that both autism (Kanner's syndrome) and Asperger's become better known, but it can also lead to nerds, shy people or Japanese being "diagnosed" with Asperger's by friends and family.

I am in my last year of highschool, about to embark on a lifequest in which I shall harness the powers of engineering learning from the secret masters of Acadia? I am also incredibly insecure and worried that I have become acclimatized to Victoria, in that I now feel slightly hesitant about getting into random conversations with random people who are walking along in the same direction as me. I enjoy adventures but am also a complete wussy, and get scared of stuff very easily and am so scared of being late that I end up arriving an hour to a half hour early for everything? I am also a big canadiens fan. and we will beat pittsburgh and crush them mercilessly!

Hello, I'm Laurel. I'm a junior in high school and I'm into Doctor Who. Probably way too much. Fortunately, there's a forum of people who will actually listen to my rantings so *happy dance*.

I'm also a physics nut and plan on studying engineering in college.

CHORUS: HIIII KRUUUUUNK...

ME: My name's Lord Krunk. I like long walks on the beach...

CHORUS: MY GOD KRUNK, YOU SEXY BEAST I WANT YOUR BABIES OMNOM

ME: Hands off mah babies. And I'll get back to you on the nomming.

CHORUS: But why, Krunk? What's so important about you?

ME: Well, there isn't really. I've been a long-term poster on a site called The Escapist and I thought it might be high time I migrated. People from The Escapist may recognise me as That Guy With The Sticky In Off-Topic. But please ladies, one at a time.

But seriously. I'm a newbie who's giving this forum a spin until he gets his sealegs. I was recommended by a friend, and I was already a fan of the eponymous comic.

Speaking of sealegs, if anyone cares to read this might they point me in a good direction? This forum seems like a big place and I don't know where to start.

Oh, and how do I write that little message under my avatar? It's been niggling at me for a good 5 minutes.

Hey folks. I'm Alex, 24 and just starting postgrad physics research here in Brisbane. I joined so as to get back into the geek mindset after spending a while as a Norm (see: pizza delivery) in the mountains. I will frequently have the urge to do a lot of elitist posting about music but I'll try not to. This place reminds me a lot of the lovely, adventurous, romantic comp. sci. people at my old uni, looking forward to meeting more!

Hi, my name is Spencer. I'm eighteen years old, from Ohio, and in my freshman year of college. I'm transferring to Capital University next year for a major in Music Technology. This is the first forum I've ever joined, so I apologize in advance if I make myself look like a fool. I've read the basic rules and whatnot, so that will hopefully not happen too often.

As for my history concerning this site, I was introduced to it by one of my close friends. I've been keeping track of it for at least a year, but I just never really understood forums or had enough interest in them to want to join one.

I like bacon the best! When it comes to pastimes, mine are primarily concerning videogames, reading, and music. I focus on FPSs, and I dabble in RPGs and RTSs. I adore sci-fi and fantasy. As for music, I played saxaphone in middle / high school, but hated it and got out of it. Now I play guitar, bass, and I can sing pretty well (if I do say so myself).

I try not to discuss politics, because it's something that so many people take to an extreme. I try to stay moderate, but I have beliefs that are aligned with the right, and others that are in line with the left.

As for religion- I was raised in the DoC (Disciples of Christ) church. I like it because it's a denomination that's not afraid to admit it doesn't have all the answers. I like it becuase it doesn't focus on evangelism, and also because it's really laid back. Just like me :)

So there's me, in a nutshell.

*awkward drumroll* Hey folks! Here's my brief introduction so you can tell I'm not a spambot... (I'm actually a randombot, also known as "sillybots", but those aren't banned from the site, right?). I have categorized my intro items for your convenience (so if you don't care about who I am you can skip the appropriate sections... which are all of them)

ASL (!= ASHL)
I'm a 20.9 years old Mexican dude who studies Computer science and just today found out there was an xkcd fora and kept saying "how the hell did I miss that?" for about ten minutes or so.

Me
I love computers and games and all the nifty stuff I'm pretty sure most people around here love as well. I also love girls, but apparently they don't love me back. But above it all, I am addicted to music, and am in a constant strive of new musical experiences, mostly around all sorts of rock, jazz and everything in between. I dislike electronica, and I hate reggaeton. Reggaeton (¬Reggae) is the summary of everything wrong with our society. So if you're in for a nice music chat, hit me up, I'm the kind of guy who can mention at least 5 awesome Swedish bands in a casual conversation, so I bet I can recommend something.

Me & xkcd
I discovered xkcd through a David Pogue tweet not too long ago, and been addicted ever since. Furthermore, since I often have boring classes and an idle mind, I've been doing my own geeky comics for a few weeks now, awesome stuff (some think), might share it with you someday if you ask nicely.

ASHL
Yes, I can be. But only if they're really asking for it. [not really, I'm the sweetest guy alive]

Hi there, I'm 14113 real name (predictably) Adam. I'm doing a levels, in computing, maths and physics and code a lot in my spare time. I joined to give my opinions in the maths university thread, as I'm going through the process of applying to do maths or cs at some point next year.

I plan on becoming something in the field of robotics or ai once I finish whatever degree I do at university, and I try to dabble in them as much as I can.

so hey, thats me!

Hi all,

I've been reading and enjoying the xkcd cartoons as long as I can remember, but thought it was about time to start engaging with the community and say thanks for the thought-provoking entertainment. :D

I'm Richard, 47,now retired after two careers - the first as a design engineer, the second as a retailer of upmarket hifi.

I'm a full-time carer for my wife, an active radio amateur, hacker (in the original sense of the word) and community activist.

I'm interested in pretty much anything that makes me stop and think, so I could turn up almost anywhere on the board depending on what's happening at the time.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you all. :)

hi
i'm sterling. someone took the name sterling which is a shame. i'm far too lazy to read more than the first page this thread. i will probably read the last 2. i think the xkcd webcomic is brilliant. i'm quite the dorky guy. i love video games, movies and tv. i try to "have a life" just for random fun experiences and to keep myself sane in between doing nothing with myself(video games, movies and tv). i'm straight sexually, skinny and a bit plain looking. i'm sure i'll post a picture eventually. i use shift and caps lock key seldomly(not sure of the grammar on this sentence). i'm a bit of a stoner. there's alot more about me if you really care you can always ask.

there's alot of i's and i am's in that post D:

Hi guys, I'm Ditte from Denmark. I'm 22 years old and a helpdesk employee. I enjoy XKCD as it's one of the few webcomics that isn't blocked at work. What else? I adore anime, MMOs, reading, drawing and cooking. I'm pretty laid back, know most internets jokes more than I know and get science jokes.

There's a lot of members here so I'm gonna drown in the crowd. : D But that's okay, I'm good at swimming.

@ Ditte from Denmark. I, also, work at a helpdesk and xkcd is SFW enough to check out at work as well which adds to it's already high appeal.

I like politics, music, movies, webcomics, other stuff.

Politics: Socialist
Music: I mostly listen to hip hop, but sometimes dabble in other stuff.
Movies: Bourne, Bond, Thrillers, Wes Anderson, the occasional documentary
Comics: Here, PhD, Penny Arcade, Boondocks when it existed.

Hello, my name is Cahojama. Wait, you knew that already? How? All my secrets are in the open!

I live in the great north (Canada). I'm a 19-57/73 year young male.

I like reading, but not writing. Right now I am almost exclusively into Sci-Fi/Fantasy. I dont go very author-centric but Allastair Renoylds is one of the few where I looked for a bunch of books based only on the author. Usually I just stand there and look and pick out whatever looks good. I love the way he takes a story and goes way beyond your wildest imagination, and yet still keeps it believable.

Every other weekend or so I go out a shoot a bunch of random strangers and revel when I get a headshot. Paintball, call off the cops.

I, am a blue collar worker. I make things. My trade is a Machnist, 2nd year apprentice. Right now I am mostly on a medium-small lathe.(Working on parts in the 0-12" diameter and 1-70" long range. Those are inches) I like doing this as a job, If I could live without working I would but luckily I find I am starting to enjoy it a little more each day.
Being able to make a part so that it fits something perfectly, and I mean perfectly is great. Hitting a diameter where the size tolerance is .0007 of an inch is a better feeling.
On the flip side, trying to hit some high tolerance sizes can be somewhat... stressful.

I found Xkcd from someone posting a comic on another fora a few months back. I promptly read them all from the start in one night. :D

This is the most civilised place on the interwebs I have found. Thank you for having me.You will, right? PLEASE

Hey everyone! LeagueOfMorons here (better known as Brandon in real life). I've been hanging around the forum here for a little while, and I just couldn't resist anymore, so I decided to register and join the fun.

But first, a little about myself . . . I'm a 24-year-old guy from Iowa, although for a long time, I called Indiana my home. I'm currently working for a major musical instrument retailer in the Quad Cities. Put simply, I sell pianos. Oddly, I'm a pretty bad piano player - I'm much better at guitar and bass, I'd like to think I'm a decent singer, and I used to play trombone in school as well. Music is pretty much my thing. (Favorite genres: anything from prog-metal to Irish folk to jam-bands to ambient electronica. Although I pride myself on being able to find something to like about almost anything.)

Other stuff you might care to know: I'm a pretty avid reader, and lately I've been really enjoying work by William Gibson, Cormac McCarthy, and Mark Z. Danielewski, although I will always be a die-hard Stephen King fan. I dig movies, too - I'm (obviously) a big Coen Brothers fan, and a few of my other directors are Alfonso Cuaron, David Lynch, J. J. Abrams, Edgar Wright, and P. T. Anderson. But I could go on and on, and I'm sure this isn't the place for listing favorites, so I'll stop there.

Anyway, I love xkcd - I've been reading the comic for a couple years now, and it perfectly fits my style and sense of humor. From what I've seen so far, the same applies to the forum here. You all seem like a great bunch of people, and I'm looking forward to hanging out here. :)
