Hey all,

older geek from various places around north america, was led here by a link on slashdot to the notebook pointer button comic, and promptly wasted the next couple of hours reading them all, then discovered the hover messages, you know the story i'm sure.

I can see I need an avatar now...

I'm fallenstar, as you can see, and I'm a high school student in Minnesota. I'm addicted to reading and chocolate, and I also like playing the violin. I like to think I'm pretty smart, and most people agree, although I don't like to flaunt it. I'm actually pretty shy, hence why I'm a part of the tech side of Drama Club.

That's pretty much it. My life consists of school, music, and books, and I like it.

I'd just like to welcome everybody that has come.
Oh, and Avatar: The Last Airbender is an incredibly awesome show, especially for Nick. It's incredibly mature for a "Kids" show, well written (the entire story was planned from the very start), and the animation is incredibly fluid, especially for the martial arts styles of each Bending technique (each which has basis in one of 4 real life martial arts).

Seriously, if you guys haven't seen this show, start buying the boxed DVDsets or checking out TurboNick.

It seems everyone joining lately is here because they attended the Dream Girl park meet, which I guess is reasonable. I, on the other hand, am here because my girlfriend pulled me in. Oh, sure, I was at the meet, I came all the way from Columbia, Maryland for it, as well as the little matter of it being mine and my girl's anniversary.

So who am I and all that. Well, I'm a software engineer and a general geek. XKCD wasn't on my list of activities to do at work until Sorcyress showed me it, at which point the romance and tragic side really just made me gasp and I had to go read all the old posts instead of writing that pesky travel-time algorithm. So beyond that, I'm a Brit living and working in the US. I came here nine years ago for the love of a girl and (secondarily) a job. I still have the job and instead a much nicer and more geeky and wonderful girl. Awww.

OK, now you've all puked up, feel free to continue about your normal activities. Oh yeah, and I'm not a bot.

I'm a sixteen year old boy living in Canada, and I found this comic in my search for a webcomic that I could read regularly without abandoning faith in the medium.

After finding this, my search continued (obligatory joke).

I'm mainly interested in video games and music, although I do watch a good number of TV shows and movies, and try to read any good novels that come my way. I guess you could say that I'm just a generally culture-centered person, but it's better if you say it, because I'd sound pretentious. I've been reading the comic for about a week now, and after skimming the forums a few times, I decided to join. I hope you'll have me.

I love the webcomic, my friend Ryan told me about the forums. I pretend to be smart most of the time anyway so i figured why not do it in context? Anyway, i'm pretty normal and not a robot in any way.... *shifty eyes*

I like how your avatar has both K_5 and K_{3,3} as subgraphs. Ever looked at graphs of n-dimensional cubes?

That's why I like the graph too! It's more popularly called the Peterson Graph (for anyone who didn't know). Wikipedia has quite a bit of info on it. :-)

And yeah, I love cubes.

I think the definition of an n-cube is recursively defined as Q_n-1 x K_2 ,
which actually is one of the things that got me more interested in graphs.

Speaking of which -
@Johannes Factotum

I too am a student at RIT.
4 years and counting. :-)
Computer Science as well.

I guess I forgot to mention that I'm interested in the space industry too. I just finished up a co-op with the Office of Naval Research. yes.. I am aware that implies boats, not space... but the stuff I did is the same... Programmed in Fortran to create a computational fluid dynamics tool for ship hull forms.
I wanna take what I learned there and end up at Boeing or Lockheed Martin, or maybe NASA (although, the last time I checked, the career section of NASA's website is confusing... )

:-)

Hello.

I am Kayamon. I am also English.

During the day, I'm a graphics programmer at Treyarch, Santa Monica. Last thing I worked on was Spiderman 3, although we don't talk about that one too much as we're all embarrassed about it.

But when night falls, I become a beer-fuelled dynamic character, using the power of the Internets and Occam's Razor to filter through the sheer pile of crap I find on Digg and reddit.

Nice to meet you all anyway.

To be really technically correct (or really anal), kiwi (the bird) is both the singular and plural. It's a Maaori word, so needs no "s". There isn't an "s" sound in Te Reo. If kiwi is used to refer to nationality (I'm a Kiwi, and that) it can be pluralised, as it's an English word, a loan-word from Te Reo.

Um, hello. I go by Biomatter on the interwebz. I guess that's all.

I suffer from a problem where if someone asks about me, I end up giving them my life story. I'll try to minimize, but will probably overcompensate. Oh well.

I don't remember how I even found this site, I've been lurking so long. (Clarification: Not even a year.) I play excessive computer games, and am a poorly-read self-proclaimed philosopher. I'm one of the smartest kids in my town, but on the flip side, I live in a rural town in the middle of Alaska, so it's not really saying much. I have an inferiority complex (superiority? Either way I lose...) going in my opinion on the subject of intelligence, though I feel like I'm starting to reveal too much.

To sum it up, I was born, I live, and I'll probably die, though it'd be nice if that trans-humanist stuff showed up a bit early. And I feel pressured to get a cool avatar. I've been really impressed by the stuff I've seen on this site, particularly compared to the other lame things I've seen before.

And I've been thinking about what a bot would really say. Saying I'm not a bot would probably be a smart thing for a bot to say. Also, could a bot just copy and alter someone else's intro? Just wondering....

Hello.

I am a twenty-something female computer programmer from South Africa, although I live just outside London now with my English husband/fellow computer geek/WoW tank/Singstar partner. OK so you get it, we're both geeks.

I like xkcd (I really really do), reading fiction, lots of TV shows (especially Sci-Fi), amdram (stage debut in November! Yay! *bites nails*), food, my mates (a fairly healthy mix of geek and non-geek) and green Smarties.

I have tried to figure out why I post on forums (and Facebook) and I think perhaps it makes me feel validated that someone out there in the big wide world can see what I have to say, and, at times, care. It also makes me feel connected and takes away the loneliness deep inside *overly dramatic sigh*.

Hrm, intro thread, why can't I just lurk for a while before I decide to post here? Bored at work, I guess. Oh, and the spambot thing, don't want to be accused of that.

I'm Jason, and I'm....35? It's 2007 so, yeah, still 35. Live in the suburbs of Houston, Tx, and work in the IT department of a big oil company. Grew up in OKC, OK and attended Oklahoma State Univ., though I'm a lifelong OU Sooner football fan.

I've been reading the comic and blag for about six months or so, didn't pay enough attention to notice that there's a forum here, so I'm glad I've found you! That and the fact that we installed Surf Control at our facility and my favorite forum is considered a gaming forum and is blocked by default. I could fix that, and eventually might, but I'm too lazy to mess with it right now.

Hellos *again*. This is Kate Sith having re-registered because... because. I have a tendency to forget the usernames I register with and wanted a new one anyway. So's there.

24/F/VA barista and comics personality (HA HA right).

I am Davean's cohort in the constant quest to get someone to start doing comics again. My job is to translate his terrifying threats into subtle requests (also: charisma bonus!). Failing that, I'm close enough to the target to use the stick.

At this writing we're on the end of the spectrum that reads "the stick."

As posted in the old thread, I was a year above Randall in high school and find his insane amounts of success to be mind-boggling and awesome. As it turns out, another Notable Chesterfield Native - NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin - went to our 'rival' high school. Talk about opposite ends of the spectrum.

uhm... yeah. Anyhow. Me again. woo!

*sigh* I've already made posts in other forums and never posted here. I'm sure lots of people absolutely POUR over these, so I can see why it's important.

I'm 21. I live in Naples, Florida. I have no college education and don't see why a piece of paper should indicate that I'm smart enough to do something besides switch the fry baskets out of the deep fryer when the buzzer goes off.

I'm a salesman/entrepreneur. I sell for a construction company by day and repair/build computers by night. I specialize in small business' computers; not because they're easier (they're not) but because they're less likely to be able to repair their own, and more able to pay my outrageous fees.

I'm engaged to a 36 year old with twin daughters (not mine, biologically, but they might as well be), and we're expecting a third girl in January.

I like to game when I have time, and I've been reading XKCD (and the discussions of the comics) for almost a year now.

My life is pretty "boring" but I love every minute of it.

Hello. My name is Joe. And I work in a button factory.

Actually, that's not true.

I'm 24, and I'm what amounts to Level 1 tech support. Graduated with a B.S. in Computer Science.

I like video games (Final Fantasy, Mario, Zelda, etc.), poker, game shows, webcomics (favorites include Penny Arcade, Sinfest and xkcd) and turtles.

Actually, I don't like turtles. I don't hate them, either. I'm quite indifferent to turtles.

I used to lurk the newest comic threads. I still do, but I may post from time to tome. Who knows.
