### Re: INTRO THREAD THE THIRD

Figured this would be a good place for a first place...

I'm Christopher aka Wani aka Waniou. I play online games like mad and I get way too excited about advanced mathematics and physics. I'm currently in my 3rd year of a physics degree with a minor in maths, that I'm considering switching to a double major in maths and physics. Seriously, I got excited when I proved that for a ring R, if [imath]r = r^{2}[/imath] for every [imath]r \in R[/imath], then R is commutative AND found a ring where this was true. Ahhh good times.

Spoiler:
$r = r^{2} = (-r)^{2} = -r$
So
$r + s = (r + s)^{2} = r^{2} + rs + sr + s^{2}$
Also
$r + s = r^{2} + s^{2}$
So cancelling on both sides
$rs + sr = 0$
$rs = -sr$
But since [imath]r = -r[/imath]
$rs = sr$
Thus R is commutative.

I am such a nerd. XD It's great!

So, hai!

My name is Roland, i'm from London, UK. I turned 21 a week or so ago.

I like musics of the rock variety, pretty much all subdivisions thereof. I was studying for an aerospace degree but lost interest with the lack of practicalites. I now work at a computer store and am awaiting an apprenteship type course next year.

I like shiny things and enjoy pretending to be able to drive. My lack of skill in the driving area is being remedied currently.

I have a predillication for cranes (not the animal, the machines), and slow worms (yes the animal )

Be nice to me? Im used to the internets and fora, but still...

# Hello!

# My name is Adriana, aka Strix Van Allen, aka Dri-chan, aka the-crazy-girl-who-throws-acid-on-annoying-guys. I'm 20 and a half.

# I'm from Brazil and my English is just Intermediate I. So, I hope you correct me when I say grammaticaly wrong things, or weird sentences and words. (I simply can't understand the "in/on/at" rules.)

# I'm in the 3rd year of a Chemistry degree (exploding things and mixing colored liquids rlz!), my secret ambition is winning the IgNobel. I read a lot, write a little, draw some sarcatisc comics (not good drawings at all, but I draw them anyway), and pretend to work in front of the public PCs of the university (actually, I read xkcd and write fantasy short stories), just to annoy people who wants to use them to talk in MSN.

# Finally, I don't know why I joined the forums. Probably the voices in my head can tell it to you, but they are shy and don't want to talk now.

# Nice to meet you! (God, I finally said this damn thing we lear all first English class to true English speakers! \o/)

Hello, my name is Michael, but go by Hellaphunt when feeling misanthrophic.

I collect fly and mosquito wings, watch Falcon Crest every night while brushing my Mrs. Potatohead's hair, and listen to Music of the Spheres. When in public I throw Velcro balls on people's sweaters and invade conversations with, "You guys are fucking losers." I always sell my cookies right next to the Girlscouts and for half the price. When at the store I wear nylon pantyhose over my head, but pay in full and am very polite to the cashiers. I'm 27 years old, a professional in my field, posted several times before introducing myself, and am joking about the above.

This page actually made me finally start my own cartoon site at http://www.thoughts-of-genius.com, a project I had in mind for a long time now.
So thanks xkcd for being the trigger

### Re: INTRO THREAD THE THIRD

Good evening.

I'm Max(imilian), I live in London, and I am of the male persuasion. I have read XKCD ("xkcd"? Does the case matter?) for a loooong time, at least on and off, and I recently started reading again after talking to a new friend at new school (starting AS levels). He posts here, but most likely doesn't know I'm coming.

About me... hmm, tricky one. I've been on the interwebs for a while, I'm a moderator somewhere else, poor spelling and grammar drive me nuts (although I'm far from perfect), as does overuse of acronyms. ("lol" "jk" "i no rite" "yh lol" "ARGH USE ENGLISH")

Oh, and sorry if I ever use _things_ *like* -this-, bad habits from one extremely strange forum.

Hi, I'm Jo (Pit or Mint for short, because it's much shorter to type out than Josephine... although not as short as Jo).

I'm 18 and a Comp Sci // Econ // Math (possibly?) major.

I've been reading XKCD for a long time, but been procrastinating joining the forums till now (mostly because I'm so bored, even making websites is boring). Also because this is a good thing to do to put off my Art History test.

Hope to see you around,

Pit.

Everyone on the internet knows me as Günter, though that isn't my real name, and I am not German. I'm very much into video games, graphic novels, and apple jelly (which is the most delicious jelly ever). I've intended to join the XKCD forums for a while now, and tonight I jumped at the chance to reference The Prince of Nothing in light of the most recent strip.

So, yeah, nice to be here.

Hello all. I'm a third year college student from Virginia, USA. I'm currently a double major in math and physics with a minor in computer science. I like to get out of my apartment when I can, but sadly the aforementioned majors don't let me do that too often.

Outside I like to hike, camp, and think about what I'd do if I could fly.

Inside I like to play video games, read, fence (with swords), and do other such things generally done inside.

I hope you'll forgive this post for being a slightly odd soundings, I'm not too good with these off-the-cuff introductions.

Nick here.

Live in California currently, used to live in New Jersey until about 3-4 months ago.
Junior in high school. Planning on majoring in either computer science or software engineering (can't figure out the difference).
Like to screw around on computers (which gets me blamed for computer problems that I have nothing to do with ). Along with that, I run Arch Linux on my laptop. If I had a choice I would read only fiction books, but alas, school tends to make that impossible. Used to play video games a lot, I've kind of grown out of it (temporarily, I assure you). In marching band, its really my only outdoor activity, and yet I'm not fat. OK, can't think of anything else to say. The End.

In general; xkcd is the preferred. It is sometimes referred to as XKCD, but changing the caps mid word is frowned upon.

Welcome to the fora (though I don't feel experienced enough here to be saying that). I'm intrigued... when you say you love Japanese culture, what do you mean? Don't take this as anything negative, I'm genuinely interested. I like people who like Japan for more than anime and cherry blossom.

Hello! My name is Chris, 23 years old, from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. I'm a huge language nerd, and I love reading about language families and ethnic migration patterns. My hobby is music from around the world. I play the oud (from Arabia/Turkey), setar (from Iran), saz (from Turkey), Komuz (from Kyrgyzstan), as well as the banjo, guitar and the piano. I like learning about how a culture or region's music reflects their history, and their interaction with other ethnic groups. I'm also really into religion. Though I don't fully subscribe to any one particular religion, I'm super fascinated with Judaism, Christianity and Islam. I took 2 years of philosophy, but I didn't like it so I dropped out. I'm going to India for 5 months this November, and once I get back I'm hoping to go to Montreal to get my bachelor's degree in religious studies.

I have a pretty gross, long beard that I'm having more and more trouble keeping under control by the day. People in my town give me lots of looks, assuming that I'm:

a) Lincoln
b) Muslim
c) Sikh
d) Homeless
e) Strapped with a bomb underneath my shirt

...none of which I actually am.

That's my life story. Much obliged!

Hello all
i'm an 18 year old high school student, I grew up in Nigeria, but moved to London three years ago for high school (education isn't exactly great in Lagos).
My parents are actually both originally from Lebanon, although both lived in Lagos for much of their lives. My dad is muslim and my mom is roman catholic.
So i'm pretty much a mix of everything . I even go to an american school (my mom thinks the american system is better than the british one).

I do well in most of my classes, although i don't have the work ethic needed to excel in any of them. I play euphonium in the school band, and i can also play piano, although i normally just teach myself songs from video games (mario, zelda, etc). Speaking of which, i'm a pretty avid gamer, been playing since i was like 5 despite how hard it was to get decent games in Africa. I've also been into anime ever since my dad ordered some on amazon when i was like 12 to see if i'd like it. I started playing rugby when i moved to london, i currently play prop on the school's team. before that i used to play tennis, although i don't really play any more.

i've been reading xkcd for a couple years, only thought of registering now for some reason. hopefully i'll make up for all the years i missed

well, that's my life in a nutshell. see you guys around the fora.
