Yeah, ok. I've been lurking and posting for awhile, but have finally gotten around to introducing myself.
I go by Softfoot here from a character in a story I abandoned trying to write five years ago. Real life kind of got in the way, but I liked the name, so I kept it.
Last time I studied physics was high school, I'm a speech pathologist, which I interpret to mean 'applied and developmental linguistics'.
I'm pretty sure I've seen some of Randall's early work on 'Speculative Grammarian'. But then, they're stick figures and phrase trees.

Hi all!

I'm zeitpfeil, a physics student from germany. My main interests are science (surprise!), computers, technology in general, sci-fi, reading and firefighting.
I like linux, C/C++, coffee, stargate, Dr. Who, martial arts, snowboarding
I dislike soccer, hot weather(If I'm trying to work), people who are unwilling to use reason, and ties.

Hi! I am TGZ (not my real-life name), 34 years old, female, in Portugal.

Who am I?

Moderate introvert with a love of talking (sounds contradictory but isn't), lover of music with no formal training, dark chocolate and coffee consumer, both/neither conservative nor liberal in politics, Catholic convert/revert with a scientific mind. Can't stop asking questions, and usually can't stop thinking of several things at once.

Currently unemployed, but my past paid occupations range from physics grad student and mathematics TA to assistant editor in a magazine, tutor, programmer/developer (C/C++ mostly, my latest project worked on applications of graph theory/complex networks to real business life problems), freelance translator (non-fiction, science and fiction, which is usually the hardest to translate (poetry would be even harder, but I never tried)) and occasional other things.

What do I love thinking about?

Mathematics, Physics, algorithms, music, art, general philosophy (I haven't read much on the subject of philosophy other than mandatory school reading, though), the world in general and people in particular.

Anybody else from Portugal here?

Hello people. As much as I just want to copy and paste my usual introduction, it is sadly geared towards one specific forum and will not fit in here. At all. So, instead, I'm going to try to write up a new one as long as my patience permits. Which, well... oh, something shiny!

I mean, introduction. So, who the Tartaturus am I? Well, I am a person. And I like to say self-evident things. Less self-evident things include the fact I am mostly a gamer, but rarely play games anymore because time seldom permits (curse you Cronos!). Because of that, I've been far more interested in anime recently, half due to the fact sites like Hulu have loads and loads of anime to watch, but also because of the crowd I hang out with. As you can probably guess by some earlier lines, I love Greek Mythology. And Roman Mythology. They're pretty much the same, except the latter is the expansion pack of the former. I got into classics through Latin, and oh boy is there going to be gratuitous Latin. No ominous Latin chanting, I can't scare you guys too much. Right?

So if not classics, what the Tartaturus do I study? Well, physics. And oh boy does it eat time like no tomorrow. I'm currently a college student studying physics. It sure is some fun stuff. Actually, I enjoy the subject matter, just the time needed to do all the homework can be very tiring. And thus, that pretty much explains why I am at XKCD. Oh, and the fact I find the comic humorous. Actually, I more or less started reading this before I even took my high school physics class. So I'm really just here because I like the comic. Fancy that?

Now, because most of this introduction is gratuitous and because my patience has run out, I'm going to go check out that shiny thing I saw earlier.

Oh, it was just a penny.

Hi, I'm Nick. I'm 18 and just started at at college. I'm from Pennsylvania. Now let's see...
I'm obsessed with weather, especially tornadoes, I am clueless about sports and proud of it. I am a nerd so I feel at home with xkcd. I have done speed runs of metroid games, though they weren't very good. I have never been employed. I am a supervisor on wikianswers and am somewhat internet addicted. I own a pet corn snake. My favorite food is chicken (dark meat). I have voted once. I ranked 6th of 179 in my graduating senior class. My name comes from a stupid unfunny joke from gaming.

And you will eventually be banned.

Not because you like the show or anything. For the most part, no one here gives a flying fuck what your entertainment preferences are. No, we'd ban you for being an insufferable ass.

So don't do this thing. Nothing good will come of it. Everyone's allowed to like... or dislike.. whatever the hell they want based on their own preferences.

Clarification for Ideological Aerostat: Other people use Fluttershy as avatar, too, including Aaeriele. In general the last three months have seen an increase in MLP avatars. Even I have given in and watched the first two episodes. It's cute.
So you're in good company and will probably be happy in this forum. Enjoy!

That's nice to hear. I was told that the forum was Brony-friendly by a friend but it appears to be better than I expected. :D Also, Fluttershy is a very popular character according to a MLP poll.

Don't feel bad if someone calls you Aaeriele, though. They won't be meaning to offend, it's just that many of us see Fluttershy and think Aerie.

If I had a nickle for every time I accurately guessed that someone was going to get banned on their intro thread post, I'd have... maybe 2 cents. Which makes no sense whatsoever.

...yes, but do you like roleplaying? Particularly pen and paper?

(No worries. There's an Edit button on the top of Your Posts, more or less by the Quote Button on everyone else's post. Best to use it to add more information. You can also hit the X in there to delete a post if you think it's necessary to do so, but usually it'll only let you do that if you're the last poster in a thread.)

Anyways, hey gents, 17 almost 18 here. Huge XKCD fan along with a few other comics (particularly webcomics), I'm chatty, and I have quite a few other hobbies. I'm a bit shy unless I get to know a person so yeah... Hoping to enjoy the forums here a lot. The Mafia board already pique's my interest!
