Do you use forums.xkcd or forums.xkcd.com?

Postby King Author » Sun Nov 24, 2013 9:17 pm UTC

Also, what's the difference, besides default font size?

What the heck is “forums.xkcd”? It doesn’t exist for me.

Now, forums.xkcd.com, fora.xkcd.com, and echochamber .me all exist, and they seem to be functionally separate because I can log in and out of each of them independently.

King Author is trying to ask if people use echochamber.me.

Given that we have a wordfilter in place, the question is a little nonsensical.

However, I'll go ahead and restate it one more time..

Forums.xkcd.com is the only supported way to access the xkcd.com forums. Echochamber, fora, and forums3 are unsupported mirrors. This means that if you are using any of those three, access may vanish at any given time and we cannot really troubleshoot things that require cookies be enabled (like, say, logging in).

They basically exist as backdoor ways of seeing if the forum is working correctly or not, and as a side bonus individuals operating in places where Forums.(anything).Com is autoblocked or forums.xkcd.com specifically is blocked have a backdoor. But it is in no way to be considered a reliable, permanent backdoor.

...

That being said, Echochamber was part of an April Fool's Joke in 201..0? 1? and I think fora's been around since 2007 or 2008 so...

Ah, so that's the difference. I use echochamber 'cause it's easier to write. Also, the default text is bigger and I have eye problems.

The font sizes appear identical to me.

But my solution works for every single webpage, not just the forums. Also wow that tiny button is well hidden. Light blue on light blue...

... I don't think I have ever seen the vA^ thing, nor even the printer/email icons, at the top of the forums before. I've won a bloody medal in the unobservant olympics.

Seems like Ctrl++ only promises to improve, but is in fact equal to Ctrl.
I edit my posts a lot and sometimes the words wrong order words appear in sentences get messed up.

Of course it's the same. You're not actually pressing anything at the same time!

It's not better, you've just incremented it by one.

Actually I'm pretty sure those are both undefined behavior, since they use a variable in the same expression it's updated.

C is updated after they're compared, they should both be fine.

I use fora because it looks more elegant and it requires half as many characters to disambiguate from the other websites I visit ('fora', as opposed to 'forums.x'). forums.xkcd.com just looks clunky and overlong to me now, after 5 years of using fora.

forums.xkcd because I literally had no idea other options worked.

Technically correct.
But the idea is the same; C++ returns C and increments C as a side effect whilst ++C returns C+1 and increments C as a side effect.
So

Code: Select all

int x = C //C is initialised int
if(C++ == x) printf("A");
x = C;
if(++C == x) printf("B");

prints A.
