Colds: Yes, they fucking suck. You're sick, and contagious, but not sick enough to take the day off. For several days. So you get to go to work/school while feeling like utter shit and being disgusting with your runny nose and/or obnoxious with your constant coughing and know that everyone hates you for spreading it. :(

Also, college is like a package manager for the brain.

Code: Select all

# install japanese
The following packages will be installed:
japanese-level1...............95%
japanese-level2

Code: Select all

# install c++
Installing dependencies for package 'c++':
math-level1...............90%
math-level2
english-level1.............95%
It's multi-threaded, so multiple packages can be installed at once, although trying to do more than 5 or 6 tends to overwhelm the system.

It's a pretty poor package manager, as it picks quite a few dependencies that are actually pretty useless, such as learning english in order to know C++.

FT: So, I have the option of setting this weather forecast applet on my recently added ObjectDock bar on my desktop to a unit of my choice. I am informed the choices are Metric units and English units. Being English, I choose the latter, yet read Fahrenheit. Surely the choice should have been rewritten as Metric and 'Merican, as it seems awfully strange for Stardock to think that to use Fahrenheit is the English method...

I think the Americans call them "English units". I'm not sure why; few of us use them anymore.

What, FaiD is locked? It isn't, but you have to be part of "The Truly Free" to see or post in it. Just shoot a PM to one of the concerned mods (I can't remember which) and they should add you to the usergroup. It'll appear like magic smoke at the very bottom of the index page.

Some of us try and maintain order, for example.

Others appear to abuse the powers vested in them to their own ends, while others still can't take a joke.

All in all, it's great fun. And it's been discussed in this thread far too many times.

Any sauces merely hide the juicy taste of a good steak, rare but not rare enough to haemorrhage over the plate.

A hint of mustard, particularly Dijon or English, merely emphasises it. As does the juice from a large grilled mushroom. I suggest you keep all flavour-stealing E-number-laced brand-named sauces well and truly away from any but the cheapest cuts of steak.

And then join FaiD, and see social experiments in flux.

I don't really like steak. Unless it's ground up, and in hamburger form... :mrgreen:

Actually, I had this big 'revelation' about alcohol too. It's not that great. Drinks with alcohol in them taste no better (often worse) than regular pop, or chocolate milk, or juice. I'll never understand...

This is my stand on alcohol as well, but for me it's because I've never bothered trying. I could say it's because it's not legal yet, but that would be a lie since there are many ways to get hold of it anyways. From what little I've tasted, it doesn't taste good enough for me to bother finding out.

Beer doesn't though, or wine - it's the same with various other alcoholic drinks. Sure, some are just sweet things designed to hide the alcohol, but I'd say those are in the minority.

If the vet doesn't still think he's got a chance at saving it, it's too well-done. Take the steak, set it on a grill, yell "Fire!" at it, flip it over, and serve. Without any sauce, but with a little black pepper.

I will be the first to admit that beer with 7-12% alcohol tends to(But on the lower end of things doesn't always) taste like crap because of the strong chemical taste, but real beer, that made with barley, hopps, malt, yeast, water, and sometimes wheat, contains alcohol and without reference to that fact happens to be extremely tasty. German purity law of 1516 ftw.

Comparing a good weissebier or Shiraz to pop is sacrilege.

That said, mass produced Canadian and American beer IS pop with alcohol added. They take something a chemist perfected in a lab, add carbonated water using one process loop, then add corn or rice alcohol strictly controlled using another process loop.

Corn and rice aren't ingredients in beer.

Good steak should only have some pepper on it. Pepper is the only spice that merely adds to another flavour rather than also having one of its own.

Turns out it was mine, one that I lost a few years ago. It's a jacket I really like (a heavy jacket for the freezing cold). I'm glad I have it back again. :)
