My house is down a hill. We get no cell phone reception. At all. 1 bar is an amazing feat. You have to walk up the damn hill.

So I guess we don't have a choice.

Related Random Thought: My brother was working in a youth hostel this summer in the Lake District and it had awful phone reception. He had to hike for ten minutes to a hilltop to get any reception.

Mountains. Not good for mobile phones.

I am the only one in my flat who can get reception actually in the flat. Simply walking out to the corridor is enough for everyone else to get reception, oddly enough. You get used to people sitting by the lift on their phones...very very glad I'm lucky enough to be on the right network to avoid that, though.

We ditched landline phones in favor of cell phones and wifi. Worst decision ever. Wifi is never working or constantly disconnecting, and we get shoddy reception. I'm lucky that I never really use the phones, but it sucks.

HOLY SHIT, I TOTALLY REMEMBER THAT!

I seriously thought I'd dreamt that show up. When I tried to explain it to people, nobody remembers the show...except YOOOOU! My explanations get the same look as when I try to describe this other animated series I remember, about two toucans who solved crimes and traveled the world in a blimp powered by pedal power. It used to come on CITV, dammit.

I find it odd that I seem to have a helluvalot more 'nerd points' than this CompSci friend of mine here at Cambridge. Just tonight she asked me "what is Linux?" You'd think you'd need a bit more immersion like that general knowledge to get past the interview. It was also tonight where I gave her the shocking revelation of a thing called Firefox.

Maybe I should have gone CompSci...

This may sound kinda sad but today a guy sitting on stage spread his legs and yelled "LOOK AT MY VAG!" in front of a teacher, and it was the the best part of my day.

I had a good day.

Sheesh. Banned for two weeks (large text baron'd in the 'post here and get banned thread') and this thread jumps 30 pages. I swear, it's the quickest growing thread in the fora by far.

Several things to say.

1. I've actually thought of something I wanted to post, and went to the fora before I remembered I'd been banned.
2. I'm also an official xkcdian now. I now own all the Firefly episodes on DVD, as well as both a beret and a top hat. Pics in the post you fehs thread will come shortly.
3. I'm going on a trip to Australia! Yeah, sweet, I know. Going with the People to People organization, to represent the US. It's basically just a tourist trip, but it fosters understanding and good relations with people from different cultures. Problem: I must somehow procure 6000 dollars. Eek!
4. Neitzsche was a pretty funny guy.

Actually, is was a lion named Parsley. Lady Rosemary was Sir Basil's wife. The show is simply titled The Herbs. Though I guess I wasn't one of "the two," so I probably shouldn't have butted into the conversation.

The lion was called Parsely, and the show was The Herbs. It was Lady Rosemary, and Dill the Dog. No tigers.

... you always have an excuse with the cell phone too

"Why didn't you answer your cell when I called?"
"Because I was fucking busy, you arrogant shitfuck. Also, leave a fucking voicemail, you piece of shit. Don't just call forty times in a row, or I'll fucking stab you in the throat with a wooden spork."

".... why do we hang out again?"
"You like abuse?"
"Oh, right. Fair enough."
