Other people's stupidity isn't your responsibility. Besides, they have no interest in curing their illness in the first place.

Nothing's really happened. /b/ was unavailable to a few AT&T customers for a while, and supposedly it's already been fixed.

someone on digg named "xkcd" threatened to block AT&T from xkcd, but nothing really important or concrete has actually happened.

The guys who live above me now are crazy. Like, leaving every door in the house open kind of crazy. Doing laundry at midnight crazy. Running around above my head at eight in the morning with shoes on crazy.

I may lose it. Soon.

Oh, my. That... wow.

So, some friends just had a baby this weekend and we went to visit. I was really fascinated by all the measures the hospital took for security and such. Not in a "wow, overboard, much?" way, but a "that's really awesome" way. Spoiler'd 'cuz it's kind of long.
Spoiler:
1. The rooms in the maternity ward are quite big and they do everything right there in the room. The mother never had to leave the room. The only reason they would've wheeled her out was if she needed a cesarean section.
2. The nurses and doctors were apparently very polite about family being in the way. In fact they were constantly apologizing if they needed them to move.
3. Noone can get on or off the maternity ward floor without a nurse at the desk letting you. The elevator won't even move until she hits a button. To even get on the floor you have to have some piece of information that a random person wouldn't know. In this case, we had to know the mother's maiden name.
4. The nurses have a very specific dress code that they make the family familiar with. And at any time they can stop a nurse and ask certain questions to make sure they're supposed to be there.
5. Noone, even the mother or father, can leave the room with the child if it's not in this cart. If they do, the nurses call security and they have to answer questions and then get lectured.
6. The baby has a wrist bracelet with a number on it. Only people with a bracelet with the matching number can take the baby out of the room in it's cart, or the above happens.

I think there were a couple more things, but I thought it was just really awesome how far they went to make the family as comfortable as possible.

I'm pretty sure my boyfriend thinks I'm crazy now. Last night around 2, his and his sister's cats started scratching the door adjacent to my room. It's not just faint scratching, it's something that sounds out of a horror movie. First, there's the knocking. I'm pretty sure it's from their tails hitting against the door. Then, one of the cats rattles the door knob and scratches alllllllll the way down from the knob. It happens every couple nights a week and at first I'm calm and get up, pet them for awhile and then hope they stop, but it usually continues for hours and after a few times of getting up, I lose it. I swear loudly, slam the door to scare them away from it and other stuff in that manner. Last night, I ended up getting up and hitting the door with my pillow. My boyfriend heard, came downstairs, and saw me. He insisted I come and sleep with him, muttering soothing things to me on the way up the stairs. I'm a really calm person usually and he's never seen me lose my temper like that in the 4 years we've been together.

A Curiosity: Who was the first webcomic artist to take advantage of title text (by which I mean writing something that actually adds to the joke)? The earliest I know of is Dinosaur Comics, which did so from its start in February of 2003. (A Softer World also started in February of 2003, but the first ones' title texts were just repeated lines from the comic.)

Is the great Ryan North the father of humorous title text as we know it? Perhaps the idea came from a technique outside of webcomics? You guys! These are the questions of our time!

Ensuing FT: xkcd et al have spoiled me. Every time I read a webcomic that doesn't have title text, I feel disappointed and disillusioned.

@Gears: You're [adjective] attack against [arbitrary location] has filled me with [emotion]! I happen to know that the people of [arbitrary location] are [adjective}, and as such, (should/shouldn't) be subjected to such things. My God, man, this is the internet!
