Seriously? Damn, I've been running around thinking I was clever to come up with such a classy portmanteau that sums up my views so succinctly.

teehee! It's cool that you came up with the portmanteau before hearing of it. But unfortunately our group isn't original :(

I'd be sleeping naked if my friend Catherine didn't spend the entire week in my room (I have to leave the door open so she can eat and use the litter box).

Well by strict definitions, atheist applies to anyone who is not a theist. Including people who are vaguely spiritual but don't believe in god (Buddhists I guess, and some new agers come to mind). So yeah, you're not wrong. I just prefer to avoid describing myself as a plain old "atheist" to theists because it can bring to mind connotations of rabid anti-religiosity (ala Dawkins), and I don't swing that way.

Also, maybe put the catbox in a corner of your room so you can close the door? I hate having to wear clothes when I'm feeling more like nakidity.

Sure, but why describe yourself inaccurately simply because there's dumbfucks being dumbfucks? Most people who believe in the various bits and bobbins of the Christian faith don't call themselves Paulies or whatever because they don't agree with The Pope or think the Jehovah's Witnesses are a bunch of fuckwits.

A dumbass is a dumbass, no matter their theism.

A truism. But the people I worry about offending are only dumbasses re: the topic of religion. I guess you could call it oversensitivity. I call it just getting along. It's more important to me to calmly discuss religious topics with family than it is to say "I am by definition an atheist! please don't crucify me"

Plus, "apatheism" is a pretty cool word. And I honestly feel it's more descriptive of my lack of god-belief than "atheism".

My room mate is the most intense Atheist I've ever met. It's not that he's a jerk to anyone with any sorts of religious beliefs, he's just more strongly atheist than anyone I've met. Lots of the people I've met that claim to be atheist would probably fall more comfortably under the apatheist label, but he's as atheist as it gets. He's a big fan of Dawkins (no great shocker there) but he doesn't push atheism on other people. It's tough to describe in words... but I feel like if the force of his belief was directed towards a major religion, he'd end up being a monk or priest or some other sort of religious figure.

I'm not sure what my personal beliefs are. I haven't found a good word to describe them. Honestly, I don't really want a word to describe them. I'm fine where I am at. That's pretty much all that matters right?

Now just to find a teaching job...
