I, uh, have some watching to do.

Definitely have some watching to do.

I'm surprised that Metal Gear Solid hasn't been turned into a porn, what with the main character named Solid Snake and all.

IRL: Just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean no-ones out to get you (although it is unlikely).

On the internet: just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean no-one will ever be out to get you (becomes more likely as time goes on).

It's funny; my memories of skipping a grade were the teacher asking me if I wanted to and walking me to the next class; recently my parents told me it took them weeks of agonizing reflection, several meetings with the teachers, etc.

Thinking back on it, the issue is pretty complex. Is a child being really bored reason enough to change his environment, and possibly alienate him?

It sure helps with the boredom, I guess.
(I should point out that despite better knowledge I now pictured a 12 year old getting moved from the living room to a patch of jungle in Nicaragua with no preparation whatsoever but maybe due to failed Jurassic-Park-esque experiments including dinosaurs.)

I feel like crying.

On an whim, I just decided to count the pages in the stack of spam that I had already moved from my mailbox straight to the recycling bin.

169 pages, some of them newspaper-sized so they should be counted twice, almost all printed in colour. Multiplied by 13.400 inhabitants, that's more than 2,26 million pages just in this one little town, printed and distributed every week, to be thrown away, read once or not at all.
169 pages of advertisements for stuff that no-one needs and most of which will in its turn be thrown away before the year is out. And yet everybody is wailing about how poor we all are and how badly we have been hit by this economic crisis.

That mail is the reason sending a letter still costs less than $0.50. It pretty much pays for the US Post Office to run.

Just... pointing that out. There is no good solution. Perhaps Government run mail is something whose time has come and gone, and the gone part has still yet to be realized.

The other day I actually sent off something via snail mail. The most important reason we'd all, I think, miss the postal service if it were gone would be, that it's still fairly hard to send physical objects through the internet.
