I expect that your friends just got confused between the treatments for coughing and choking.

We do in France, but only on digital displays.

On a digital display: 2pm = 14:00
hand-written: 2pm = 14h00
Shit happens

I've only ever seen it used once in a detective-murder-mystery by some famous female writer of such novels whose name eludes me for the moment. I've heard that ':' became more popular when digital displays became common [citation needed].

considering that the original reason that my name is an absolute value was because Erasmus was taken at same point on the intertubes (can't exactly remember where) and I am still using it, yes.

I honestly don't know why someone would use more than one name unless they don't want anyone to be able to connect the accounts.

For the most part, kriel is starting to overtake all my other names for online. (Or the variation, Kriela. But mh.) I like the androgynous feel to it, and it makes a very nice gaming name. (For awhile, I was -]KM[-Kriel, which was kinda cool.)

For arcades, with the four-letter thingy, i use [ERIR], which has nothing to do with my IRL name. It's either [EriR]youtan or 'Error', slightly bastardized.

... I'll shut up now.

Tbh he wasnt what i was expecting him to be like

On the drawing at the end, I thought he was spelling out "cock" at first (I didn't hear the question someone asked about it). Then he finished it and I was like, Ohhh.

Other random thoughts: he looked like a teenager, not at all like the picture on his wikipedia page. If someone like that was walking in my high school, I wouldn't have given him a second glance. It was actually kind of painful to watch him stumble whilst talking at the beginning. Really liked the resistor reference at the end, though; that was hilarious. All in all, it was a pretty interesting use of one hour.

For what it's worth, I *never* use the same account name twice.

Mostly, it's because I'm never satisfied with them.

For example, if I could, right now, I would change this name's root: Insignificant Deifaction.

I tend to make up a new name related to the subject of the fora if I plan on staying and chilling out.

In countries using 24-hour time, do the clocks' hands still do two rotations a day, or is it just one ring from 0 to 23, with 12 at the bottom?

I'd use different names, but, like I_D, I would never be satisfied, so I stick with this one. [/name discussion in the F/RT thread]

RT: using F/RT to denote this thread probably isn't a good idea since I would always mentally replace "/" with "A". How old am I, really?

RT: this is the third time today I've used the word "denote". I've don't think I've ever used it that many times in a month.

Nope. (I don't think so anyway.)

I think 24h time is more personal preference, but if when you look at an analogue clock, you have some idea of what the general time is.

4am is easily distinguished from 4pm. :D

Not if you're in Greenland!

Seriously, most 24 hour clocks just have two rings of numerals. So if you're lazy you can still read them in 12hour time.

I dunno, this is like the great debate between my friends when we all had the school laptops:

Do you prefer to display the time left in the battery, or the percentage?

Personally, I prefer percentage and analog. I think it might have something to do with a holistic way of viewing things. Or visual thinking.

Percentage. Time is useless, as the computer has to roughly estimate how much is left based on your current usage, and should you fire up another application or turn off the monitor, those things change. The percentage left does not... well, it drains out, obviously, but your computer doesn't change your displayed charge from 45% to 65% because you turned off the Falling Sand Game.

How old is the laptop/battery? It's possible that it's just time for a new one...

Speaking of which, I need a new one. My laptop's (17" hp dv8000) battery got majorly abused this past school year and decided to give up. By majorly abused, I mean spending all day going in and out of standby, being plugged in and unplugged, and just poor power cycling choices on my part. Used to last about 2 hours, now its 30 minutes. If that. Oh well. Having a laptop in Music History was pretty important.
