RT: So a whole bunch of big ass-birds just walked across my front yard. I can't tell what kind they are; they're too big to be ducks, to dark to be geese. My first thought was wild turkeys, but I'm not sure anymore.

Anyways, there's eleven of them at my last count, and they're hanging around under the crabapple tree, nom-nom-nom'ing on myrtle. I tried to get a picture, but my camera is craaaap.

I had it that way because normal fora members are used to tiny text and know how to read it while someone who casually checks the fora would miss it. Note to self. Never trust fora members to not be complete assholes. And yes, having a quasi-SO does, in fact, suck.

I really don't care. Asking someone not to LTB something in tiny text is like saying to a 5 year old, "DO NOT PUSH THIS SHINY RED BUTTON THAT WILL SPRAY CANDY INTO THE AIR."

I have my minimum text size set to 9. Tiny text never gets by me.

It's true, I would have.
tiny text is evil. Don't do it.

Edit for more: mods have stated in the past that putting text at lower than tiny is a stupid idea, and they dislike it. In fact, tiny is pushing it. Small is good enough for the visual effect of small text.

If you've posted text to a forum, people will see it. It's not hard to look at the course, or quote the text, or highlight and paste. So, really, you're just being a douche if you make tiny text. That's why the LTB mod exists, and that's why others fill in when they're busy.

It's probably worth noting that the degree to which something is obnoxious has less to do with the mechanical similarities or differences it bears to other, not-obnoxious things, and more to do with how many people find it obnoxious.

And it seems that people find it obnoxious.

I don't mind copy-pasting small strings of text into my address bar in order to read it. I do, however, mind having to quote someone's post to know that they said something in text that's so small I can't see it.

Magical hypothetical scenario:

I genuinely care about a few people who frequent a given set of fora.
I want to share something with these people en masse.
I don't particularly care if other people who frequent these fora read it or not.
I absolutely DO NOT WANT certain people to read it, certain people who do browse the fora occasionally.

Damn, if only there was some way to accomplish this.

Oh wait... there is. Provided you people don't decide to be douche bags.

Spoiler tags are obvious and offer nothing in terms of discretion.

Tiny text, on the other hand, is very easy to see if you're looking for it but very easy to miss otherwise. Yes, I know that many of you would have read what I wrote unaided. I wanted to be able to post that without the chance that it would be read by a certain someone.

So seriously, thanks a whole bunch for being a prick, sleepy. All jokes aside I am no longer bothered by the fact that I don't have time to browse these fora much anymore.

Don't be surprised if you don't see me posting.

If we are talking seriously, then you really should know that nothing I do is intentionally dickheadish. It just happens that way.

Think about it. You are posting in a thread which is primarily used for absent minded thoughts, and general light-heartedness, and you posted something in tiny text, and mentioned that you didn't want it LTB'd. If you hadn't mentioned that, I would've just skimmed over it, but that mention made it seem, I don't know, less serious?

So yeah. Make of that what you will.

One other thing...
I absolutely DO NOT WANT certain people to read it, certain people who do browse the fora occasionally.
Um, I think the point here would be just to not post it in a public place then? Just a thought. If these people browse the fora, and are likely to see it (just like anyone else just browsing) then why not just not post it, and share the thought you wanted to share with those specific people via PM?

So... sorry?

Don't post it in a publicly searchable forum, do it in Dear SB, LS&R or FaiD, two of which are only visible to registered users, the last one being an opt-in membership. Or use [code] tags, which again, aren't grabbed when the Googlebots roll through.

Anything else, use PMs.

The forums are not here to assist you in communicating with a certain subset of users without communicating with another subset. They're public, with certain areas being less public than others. But they're still public.

And someone searching your post history, especially for keywords, would still find the post, tinytext or no.
