Though that depends on the reference frame used. If you start from a reference frame that was rotating with the earth some years in the past, the same effect you describe would indeed make the world appear to spin faster.

It's okay. I am an active member of two other forums besides this one, both of which have "funny pictures" threads. I'll replenish my supplies soon enough. I'm more annoyed about those mp3s I hadn't gotten around to moving to my mp3 player. Some of them cost 79p!

Some services keep a record of the songs you've purchased, so you can download them again at no cost (I think iTunes and Rhapsody do this, and maybe some others?).

I thought you were able to upgrade Windows without wiping... I believe sexytalon was referring to this.

That said, I find semi-regularly wiping windows and restarting is useful. It seems to like to accumulate crap (or maybe it's just the other people in my house :/).

protip: have a partition which windows is installed on, and a partition containing documents/music/pictures/etc. All my computers are set up this way, and it means you can just go ahead and hard format, and you lose nothing except for the apps themselves.

Yeah I never choose the "upgrade" option. Doing so means all the crud that's accumulated in the registry and beyond is likely to stick around. Clean slate every time. I'm just kicking myself that this time, I wasn't as careful as I usually am.

If I remember right from when I did it (which was last night, so I hope I remember right), it didn't involve wiping... you can't use the upgrade option, it's still a fresh install, but it doesn't delete the previous installation... just moves it out of the way.

Check whether you've got a C:\Windows.000 folder.

That's why I have vim set to generate backup~-files. Sure, occasionally they litter things up, but you can put "rm *~" in 'make dist' and nobody will be the wiser.

I've been away from the fora for almost exactly 2 days. It's taken me about 4 hours on-and-off (I'm reading at work) to get caught up on the threads in my egosearch. I haven't even looked at anything new yet. This is a worrying ratio.

Anyone know what the song is that plays in the repo men trailer? Most recognizable at 2m23s. It's really annoying because I know I know that drum beat.

99% certain it's not. It's from some rock song I believe, at least that's where I recognize the drums from. The frustrating part is that I used to play this song on my drums in highschool, and now I can't remember what the hell it is.

When I was little I learned about those quote marks you use to say "the word above this". For example:
Spoiler:

Code: Select all

I do not like them in a box.
" "   "    "    " with a fox.

I didn't like writing and a soon as I heard this I started using the marks everywhere. However, I didn't know they were supposed to only be used if they refer to a word directly above the empty space you were going to write in. So my notebook was covered in lengthy "double lines" (instead of quotes) that would run from one word to a place two paragraphs below it, going outside of the text, in between the lines, even, sometimes, back to the same line, like a tiny rainbow. My teacher corrected me the first time she saw this.

Have you noticed how that kind of moustache is the only MANLY moustache? It's the kind Saxton Hale has so perhaps that has something to do with it.

Very much yes.
