Speaking of allergy, is it possible to be allergic to apples? Every time I eat one, it makes my throat tingle in much the same way as when I have hayfever.

Aw man, that sucks. I personally dislike onions unless they're baked.

And it is probably possible to be allergic to apples. I mean you can even be allergic to your own hair, so I don't see a reason why you can't be allergic to apples.

Which also sucks, as apples are delicious.

Possibly. Allergy to apples can also be Oral allergy syndrome: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oral_allergy_syndrome
which is kindof like hayfever:
Allergies to a certain pollen are associated with OAS reactions to certain foods

It's worth getting checked as continued exposure, if it is an allergy, will just make it worse. I'm allergic to apples, pears, some red fruit, a few nuts and latex (you really don't want to know....) and having tried the 'oh, sod it, how bad can it be' approach I now have to carry an epipen. Get a referral to an allergy specialist -it will be worth it. (The tingling in the mouth sounds familiar - if your throat starts to constrict then you really need to do something soon).

Surely continued exposure should increase my resistance to the allergy, if that is indeed what it is?

Edit: I mean it seems to have worked on my hayfever since it's not as severe as it was when I was little.

It seems to depend upon the allergy as I have a friend who's allergic to dogs and nuts. She's been told that spending time with her dog will help with the dog allergy but she should avoid all possible traces of nuts as they'll build up and just make it worse (by the same expert I believe).

Is it direct or indirect exposure that makes the difference? I do know that eating local honey seems to help my hayfever. On the other hand, I can promise you that repeated exposure to latex was definitely not a good thing, and the allergy specialist suggested that continuing to eat hazelnuts would be a good way around not having a pension, as sooner or later I wouldn't need one. Hence the epipen. I'm not sure I understand the different mechanisms at work but I would be interested if anyone can explain?

The funny thing is that I didn't have allergies, asthma, hayfever, etc. when I was a kid but seem to have grown into it. Personally I blame it on moving to the smog of South East England, but then I blame everything negative on leaving Cornwall ;-).

So this morning in my adventure into the realm of cooking, I accidentally used red chili pepper instead of paprika in the eggs of my Bacon-Scrambled Eggs-Toast sandwich. This is the most delicious mistake of my life.

Ok, I have really been trying to avoid this nonsense chemistry lesson, but I can put it off no longer. (Deep Breath)

Ring Ring!

Alex- Hello?

Receptionist- Alex, we’d like to fly you out to work on this problem. However, we booked your ticket with a 10 hour airport delay. It was part of our frequent flyer program.

Alex- Sure I’m happy to help, I’ll see if I can go standby to cut the delay.

Receptionist- OK if you can, we’ll pick you up whenever you arrive.

Airport

Passenger 1- Wow, this plane is packed like a circus tent.

Alex- boy it sure is. I’m glad I made the earlier flight. Nice glasses Sir. Pleasant chat and safe travel.

Passenger 2- Where’s your lab at?

Alex- near the beach.

Passenger 2- What do you think of these people?

Alex- I don’t know any of them.

Passenger 2- What about this person?

Alex- I ‘d never speculate having not been involved in the process. There are some really shite scientists out there.

Passenger 2- Leaves in a huff.

Alex- safe drive south. (shakes head)

Alex walks to the beach and looks for a diner to get some breakfast. hoping to give “Scientific America” a little more prep time, due to his early arrival. However, garden state shore isn’t what he expected at 9:30 in the morning. He takes a picture for a couple sipping wine out of hotel cups and proceeds to the closest diner. He calls Scientific America after breakfast.

Receptionist- Hello

Alex- Hey I’m here at the beach finishing up breakfast.

Receptionist- The director will be down to pick you up momentarily. Where are you.

Alex- I took the main road until it dead ended into the beach. The cross streets are beach blvd. and 36th st. Bye.

Ring Ring

Director- Where the hell are you? It’s never easy with you. Why the fuck couldn’t you stay at the airport, now I’m gonna be driving around for an hour looking for you.

Alex- I’m sorry I wanted to give you a little more time. If you head east, you run directly into the ocean. It is the only street that runs along the beach. One mile from the airport and they are numbered.

Director- That road runs 40 miles down the coast.

Alex- but I’m by the airport

Director- god damn it, I can’t find it, walk back to the airport and I’ll pick you up.

Alex- That’s four miles.

Director- Well I guess I’ll be waiting then. Every damn time!

I had eggs for breakfast; I had no intention of taking the shells with me. Welcome to Scientific America! I could continue with the less pleasant, but I see no point. This sub plot has nothing but bad history…….

Distillation and Chromatography increase with radical psychotopes, especially in a confined environment. Always has and always will. It is insane to repeat this experiment getting the same result every time. Unless that is your intention.
The group was correct, Overload has blown the circuit. I will never work with or for Scientific America and or any of its affiliates. That has always been the case! FFS!

It sickens me to think of the angles. Furthermore, the only thing you create under these conditions is more psychotopes.

Yes, that's the translation. But the results for total night aren't much better.

And I figured that it was probably some cultural event so it seemed like a good idea to google the original name. ( If Totalnacht is the original name )

When I was a kid and saw my dad in a suit every day to go to work, I used to think, 'I really want to do something that means I can wear what I want all the time. I would hate having to wear a suit'. And I'm doing something that, if it works out in some way, will mean that. However I now think that suits look like something really cool that I'd like to wear. The first time I wore a tux I felt like a jackass. A year later when I had to wear one, I looked at myself and thought 'Hell yeah, that is a one goddamn amazing look'. It's funny how perceptions change.

<RT>

The packaging for undergarments is ridiculous. Hanes sells socks in resealable, Ziplock style bags, and they seem to be very proud of this fact. Thing is, I cannot think of a situation where I have needed a bag specifically for my socks, with the sole exception of when I initially purchase them. Even if such an event were to arise I'm fairly certain that an old shopping bag would suffice.

But Hanes' resealable sock bags seem sensible compared to the packaging for men's underwear. Every company has a picture on the front of some male model wearing the underwear I'm thinking about buying. It's like they're saying, "Here's what your underwear would look like when being worn by a much more attractive man. Look at him, having the time of his life just by wearing underwear! Obviously, your results will vary." I just wanted to keep manlings away from my zipper and now some clothing company decided to remind me that I'm a fat, hairy, pasty guy.

And that's not even the worst. Some companies have realized that most of the people who buy men's underwear don't like looking at partially naked men. Their solution to this wasn't to simply show the product, or even to show it on a mannequin. Instead, they opted to stick with the model and zoom in on his crotch. What exactly am I suppose to get from that? Am I supposed to observe just how comfortable his man-berries look in those undies? Because all I can think is that I can't buy underwear unless some other dude's already rubbed his penis on it. Although I guess that's too be expected, outside of me and olive oil there are no other virgins on Earth.

But the close up picture of some guy's crotch still doesn't seem as odd as the boxers being sold on hangers. Is there really some guy who walks into the mall to buy a single pair of boxers? Is there really someone who feels that having one more pair of boxers would be great, but that three more would just be excessive?
That's not even the weirdest part. The weirdest part is that this guy is going to buy a pair of boxers that were on display to everyone in the mall. At least the bags of boxers were sealed up after the requisite dick-rubbing from various male models, but these are available for anyone in the mall to touch, look at, and grope. If someone wants to walk into the mall and sneeze on those boxers, they have that opportunity. Maybe I'm just a prude, but on the big list of things that I want the world to see, "my underwear" didn't make the cut.

See, I've developed an immunity to TVTropes. I've spent SO MUCH time there that I instantly recognize, and become bored with, most of the pages. Whenever I start mostly seeing pages I've seen, I just close the tabs and move on.

It still takes a couple hours, but at least I've got a way out. In emergencies I'll just pull my power plug and let my laptop's battery act as a timer.

Well now it's day two of not getting anything done on my papers. At least this time I have a legitimate excuse. The first one I tried to work on I couldn't because the section of the library that contains the book I need was closed. The second one was due to not being able to get ANYONE willing to talk to me for a few minutes in my "man on the street" portion of the report.

For being on the brink of failure, I'm oddly at peace. I guess never skipping a class and doing every last inane piece of homework for my heavy course-load semester while working at least three or four days a week has piled up into a "I really really do not give a shit about any of this any more, and want summer to start soon" feeling.

I just saw a facebook page called "We got Rage Against the Machine to #1, we can get the Lib Dems into office!" and it has 150k+ members.
I don't know what to say.

I seem to remember that humans can't take in water via the skin. Your skin's outer layer gets all saturated and prune-y, but your body doesn't get to use any of this. (Hence, Tantalus.)
