Celestia beats that for me.

and I can do nifty things like pretending I'm firing the death star superlaser at stuff.

Oh, and it gets even better when you learn there are controls that let you fly around like a spaceship. It also gives you a speed reading. If you need to show someone how far apart space is, try going from earth to mars at c.

I have a kitten who likes to chase and eat moths.

Upside: Our house is now gratifyingly moth-free, since the kitten has eaten them all.

Downside: The kitten is now thoroughly disappointed at the resulting lack of moths to chase and eat, since she's eaten them all.

Let this be a lesson in over-predation to the kitten.

Is it an offshoot of anything? If so, you should call it offsHoot (open-format file system, hoot) and make the mascot an owl.

I'm afraid it's not, though that would have been good. I haven't needed a name for it until now, but I need something snappy to tell GitHub. The only word I can think of is "mung" but that pretty much means the opposite of what I want to convey.

I wasn't going to do room service, but I didn't feel comfortable walking a couple blocks to the store in the dark, and I'm not sure I have the energy anyway.

Room service is one of those things that I know is unreasonable, but, like an expensive restaurant, I'd like to try once just to know what it feels like.

That, and I love eating in bed. I have a feeling my parents made up the unreasonable bit so I wouldn't get used to eating in a hotel bedroom.

Hey, I can now accurately describe the exact problem in the game industry today, and I can cite not one, but TWO examples.

Ready?

They're making new X-Com and Syndicate games. They're both first person shooters.

(Hint : Both X-com and Syndicate were turn based strategy games in which maybe half the game was spent in combat, the other half was spent balancing your budget, researching new gear and so on. Stuff I've never seen attempted in a FPS, much less done well.)

One the one hand a FPS with the environment destruction and weapons of X-Com would be fun. On the other hand FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!

I sorta wished there would be a Dungeon Keeper element, where you can zoom in to your minions soldiers/scientists and operate stuff in the first person, whilst micromanaging from a distance everything that made made the original great.

But no, on initial viewing it appears to be X-COM in name only, according to the one 1950s-cold-war-raygun-little-green-men-sci-fi-era play-teaser-video-thing I saw. Where's my goddamned SkyRanger and PowerSuits where the face looks like an old-fashioned video camera? The 50s version of The Future has been done to death. Bring forth the 90s version!
